Looking at Mirage Liberty Full Face??? Have Swift Orig Now.

Post by match8 » Mon Jul 23, 2007 3:29 pm

I'm thinking about purchasing a Mirage Liberty Full Face. I have been using a Original Swift Nasal Pillow. Will a mustache or other facial hair cause leakage on the Mirage Liberty Full Face?

With my S8 Elite and the original Swift nasal pillow over the last month my numbers are:
Press:11.4
Leak: 0.38L/s
AHI: 5.8
AI: 0.5
I believe I am breathing through my mouth quite a bit. Some nights my Leaks have been as high .60L/s over the last few months. The actual CPAP is set at a pressure of 12.2 but the results state only 11.4. Is that because I have the machine set to a swift mask and that is the amount lost in the mask exhaust?

I need a new mask and thought maybe the Mirage Liberty Full Face might help with the mouth breathing but I have facial hair. Any suggestions on a full face or hybrid masks are very much appreciated. I always get great advice here. Looking forward to your comments and solutions.

Liberty mask

Hi Match8
I have since early New Year been successfully using a F&P Opus nasal pillow system with very good results and great comfort, however, of late I had been having a bit of post nasal drip problems and with keeping my mouth glued shut I was having trouble clearing my throat. Also the efficacy was lessened greatly when sleeping on my back which is the m ost comfortable for me as in another time I played alot of sport and had injuries to both my shoulders. A supplier of Resmed products recently started in town and they were happy to rent me a Liberty for a week to try out. I have a full beard, and back when I was first titrated and fitted out I tried a couple of Full Face masks but they just were not happening at all so I started with a Swift and an Activa, both of which have been fine but with their own small problems to get around.
Got home and tried the Liberty (large) and could not get it going at all the first night. Second night I cinched it up a bit tighter (I guess I had just got used to masks that fit a little looser) and had a really good nights sleep. My AHI dropped right down with nights of 0.4, 0.8 and for the 1st time 2 nights ago a 0.0. All of this while sleeping comfortably both on my back and sides. The mask is very quiet, and once my nose got use to it, quite comfortable. I find I still mainly breath through my nose with my mouth closed running 0n about 10.6 cm but when I roll onto my back my mouth opens, pressure goes up to 13 cm or so but I am not being aroused in any way and have been sleeping for longer undisturbed. My beard is kept at the lowest setting on my trimmer, there are a few minor leaks ( I have averaged 0.38 l/sec on my S8 for 2 weeks) but my treatment and efficacy don't seem to have suffered.
All in all I am pretty wrapped with the mask. It probably does take a bit more tweaking to get it right. I have had to stabilise the pillows the same as with my Opus. They are abit softer than the Swift and tend to move a bit on me but a support band just under and aoound the pillows ( I am using a small, cotton covered elastic pony tail hair band) has fixed that problem and my mask leak read out on the S8 has been V/good or excellent since then.
I am off to bed now, but if you have any further questions I will be only to happy to answer when and if possible.
Good luck
Archie.

Thanks for the details of your events with your masks! I really appreciate the information you have provided. I have no DME that will let me try it out but I am leaning towards ordering one from cpap.com.

Thanks again,
Mark
