How many of you are 100% compliant?
I've been doing some research and the general compliance stats are shocking:
Up to 50% of new patients STOP therapy after the first week.
About 25% of the remaining people will have stopped using CPAP altogether by the 2 year anniversary.
In one study that defined compliance as being at least 4 or 5 hours a night, 5 nights a week, only half of the people in the survey hit those numbers.
What's happening to all of these diagnosed people who stop therapy???

Uhhh leme guess ... they are sustaining the healthcare industry with heart attack and stroke victims and the morgues with fresh plantings.SleepGuy wrote:I've been doing some research and the general compliance stats are shocking:

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
No doubt. The last firm statistic I found for total OSA diagnoses showed a full 1 million new diagnoses in the USA in 1998. No doubt that the number has gone up significantly since then. Given the compliance rates we're talking about hundreds of thousands of people who just give up . . . and live with (and otherwise die from) the consequences.DreamStalker wrote:Uhhh leme guess ... they are sustaining the healthcare industry with heart attack and stroke victims and the morgues with fresh plantings.

I wonder how many of these have no insurance, no medicaid, no medicare, and no way of scraping together $500 for a basic machine and mask? They found my OSA 3 days before my medicaid ended for good, and medicaid only rents the machine for 10 months until it is considered paid for. So after my one month rental, I have to come up with a cpap on my own. And since having enough money after paying bills with an 18 hour a week job makes even buying something from a vending machine a problem, paying for a machine that will cost more than I make in a month seems like a pipe dream. But I'm going to speak to the people at Vocational Rehab tomorrow, since without help I'm not going to even be able to keep up with the 18 hour job, much less get a decent one.DreamStalker wrote:Uhhh leme guess ... they are sustaining the healthcare industry with heart attack and stroke victims and the morgues with fresh plantings.SleepGuy wrote:I've been doing some research and the general compliance stats are shocking:

To have what you want is wealth; to be able to do without is power.
I've been using my machine for 10 days now and have been using it faithfully so far! The only time I won't be compliant is when I have sinus surgery next month and that's only because I will have my nose packed full of gauze for a night and won't be able to. Like others on there even after only 10 days I"m scared to sleep without it. I feel so much better already, more with it and awake. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get out of bed if I didn't use it now.

Yep, very scary to think that kind of statement was made by a medical professional, now that you know more than he does about OSA.Refugee wrote:What kills me is when I first got my machine my Doc told me I only needed to use it 4 hours a night. At the time that sounded great, now that I'm educated on the matter its scary that he told me that.

I WILL NOT sleep without my CPAP. Prior to being diagnosed and getting my machine, I would wake up every 20 minutes all night every night, did that for years. I had forgotten what it was like to really sleep good.
I've had my CPAP for a year now. It has made a world of difference in my sleep and in my life. I feel so much better and I sleep like a dead rock. I LOVE IT.
I'm 100% compliant.
Happy sleeping,
Sharon

This therapy WORKS!!!
My CPAPing brother went on a 10 day motorcycle trip without his gear. I think he's crazy. He did admit that he was happy to finally get some sleep his first night back.Missy wrote:Hubby and I went camping for a couple of nights, and I didn't bring my machine. BAD idea. I built a auxiliary battery system for powering my cpap while motorcycle camping. You might want to have your brother check out my post here.http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/ind ... 273.0.htmlSleepGuy wrote:My CPAPing brother went on a 10 day motorcycle trip without his gear. I figured it was too dangerous to ride in a sleep deprived state. But I have severe OSA...
