Hi All,
I've emailed a couple of veterans on a unit that does the equivalent of a sleep study at home. I remember clicking on a link and gave me all the data. I've searched through all the postings, but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.
My pulmonary MD said he wanted more data (because I only slept 136 minutes out of 7.5 hours!!!). He seemed open to the idea of the home unit, but I have to find it so I can give it to him.
You've all been so helpfull, I know someone has this somewhere.
Thanks so much,
VT

I think a data recording pule oximeter would be helpful. I cannot speak for other people but for myself, I can see my pulse relaxed and the numbers were very stable when I was sleeping. You may be able to see where your O2 drops and pulse rate rises to find where you have apnea or hypopnea.
I think some companies are promoting this type of technology in special devices but really all you need is a decent pulse ox with record or at least printing.

I could be wrong but I think you are thinking of an APAP machine, or self adjusting - here's some.
These can be used to self-titrate and avoid another night in the sleep center...
Is this what you mean?

Still looking
Thanks for the input,
But this was literally a piece that went below your nose just over your mouth, kind of like a butterfly (minimal wires, etc.). I've searched this site, google, yahoo.....nothin. It's a very small piece w/o wires and boxes and I saw it on the 1st or 2nd time I found the web site. It's driving me crazy!
The MD actually gave me klonapin (sp?) and last night I felt I actually felt like I slept.
Almost forgot, and maybe I should post this elsewhere, but the Massachusetts Legislature is passing a bill that if you are diagnosed with any apnea, they will be required to pull your drivers license. I think the only exception is if you get a note from your MD.
That's scary to me. At this point I'm hoping the pills work, I drive 1.5 hours to work every day.
You have to live in MA to really appreciate the stupidity of our government. We're only a half a step away from socialism.
Peace out,
VT

VT, have you seen the youtube.com video of Rosie O'Donnell discussing her sleep apnea during "The View"? The at-home diagnostic set-up she used is a bit different from the one bdp pointed out, but it gave a quite thorough data readout. Take a look at the monitoring setup in the video and see if that looks like what you were thinking of.

The sleep apnea specialist's name was Dr. Michael Breus. He also authored a book called Good Night: The Sleep Doctor's 4-Week Program to Better Sleep and Better Health and has this website: http://www.yourbeautysleep.com/
Good luck!

Were I to be in such a position (and, given the lack of good data from my titration study, I pretty much was,) I would greatly prefer to use an AutoPap over two weeks versus another one-night study, even if at home. Sleep varies a great deal from one night to another, and data samples over a longer period of time will have much greater validity and come much closer to an optimum pressure.
Come to think of it, I'd prefer even more strongly to gather data over six months or more via an AutoPap. Then I'd want to analyze it with software. But I'm slow.
(AHI 1.25, AI 0.02, HI 1.23 for the last week.)
Add a data-collecting pulse oximeter (as already suggested) to the AutoPap and you'll have most of what you need. You won't get a good read on central apneas and non-breathing sleep disturbances, but you will have a pretty good read on your OSA status and needed pressure.

Thanks and Update
Hi All,
And Bdp522 thanks so much that was exactly what I was looking for. The MD want's more sleep tests, and the labs are unpleasant. As far as the update he gave me klonopin (sp?) and told me, be careful because you've developed a sleep debt.
Get this, I go to bed at 7pm Thursday. I woke up 10 am. On Saturday. So I don't know if this is a light of the end of the tunnel, or just real good drugs. The MD seems to think that quitting smoking is a traumatic event. I offered to go back to smoking, but he suggested I don't.
Anyway, thanks to all and hopefully I'll get this fixed at some point.
Thanks again,
VT
