Red Blotches on Forehead from Using Quattro Mask
Red Blotches on Forehead from Using Quattro Mask
I just started using a Resmed Quattro full face mask and have developed two red blotches on my forehead where the forehead support touches. One is brighter than the other and does not go away even hours after I take off the mask. Has ahyone else had this problem with this or any other full face mask? Anything I can do to prevent it? I am not aware of being allergic to latex.

Thanks for the advice. I put a piece of fleece on my forehead and that seemed to get rid of the red marks there. But a bigger problem developed. Now the mask in cutting into the bridge of my nose and I have something like a blister there now. I tried loosening the forehead straps and tried adjusting the forehead "dial" but that did not help- may have made things worse. I tried putting a litle piece of fleece around the bridge on my nose but apparently it wouldn't stay in place and the scraping of my nose continued. Called my DME (as I have had the Quattro for only 5 days) and he wants me to come in tomorrow. He's thinking maybe the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask might work better. I am using this mask with a Resmed VPAP Adapt-SV. The machine is showing I have a perfect fit, but the appearance of my nose makes me look like I've been in a fight (and lost!). Any thought? Is the UMFF mask a different shape which might eliminate this problem?

I haven't used the Quattro, but I've used the UMFF, and I know the forehead piece is larger on it.JIMCHI wrote:Thanks for the advice. Everybody has a different shape and gets a different fit, but I never had a problem with the bridge of my nose with the Ultra Mirage FF. I thought it was a very comfortable mask.
If you do actually have a blister on the bridge, you may not get relief from any full face mask (except the Hybrid or Liberty)until that heals.

I use the UMFF....very comfortable mask. You could try putting a band aid on the bridge of your nose. I had to do that on the side when I got a zit. lol It worked well. I havent tried the quattro yet....but I want to. Though the UMFF is so comfy for me I might find it hard to give up. lol Good luck.

Put a piece of hypoallergenic tape over the parts of the mask (pads?) that rest on your forehead. You will need to replace the tape on the mask pads every two or three weeks but that's easy to do.JIMCHI wrote:Anything I can do to prevent it?
I have the same problem (on one side of my forehead only... go figure) with my F&P 405 mask, but the tape completely eliminates it.

Quattro
I have been using the FF Quattro for 4 nights and I have an indent in the bridge of my nose.
The top straps have been loosened to the point where it would leak if I let it go any more. The Dial-A-Leak is tweaked so that if I turn it any way clockwise or counter clockwise the leaks start.
Tonight is the start of the Hybrid......since I found the most comfortable to date is the Liberty but they fit me a bit small on the sizing instead of a Large.....
Good luck.....finding a mask that you like is a full time job.

You can put mole skin on the mask where it meets the bridge of your nose. It is sold in the foot care section of drug stores. Just cut the size you need and stick it on.

The brand I uses is called Elastowrap (part of the Elastoplast product line) and is made by Beiersdorf. It's readily available from Pharmacies in Australia and is usually displayed with the sports (injury) tapes. It is commonly used under a strong cloth-based tapes to minimise allergic reaction to the adhesives used in the cloth tapes.Altered_Ego wrote:Where do you get hypoallergenic tape?
I have no idea if the Elastoplast brand is used in North America, but the above may give you enough clues of where to look in a Pharmacy for a suitable equivalent product.

I am working on getting the Mirage Quattro. I tried the Respironics ComfortFull2 and it leaks out the bottom and only stops if I put cotton rolled up between the flap and cushion. I'd hate to swallow cotton during the night! My DME says they lost their ResMed rep and can't get the mask yet.jennmary wrote:I use the UMFF....very comfortable mask. I'll be really interested in your experience if you get one!
