I don't have many dreams where I actually move or act them out but something I have done many times is wake myself up by laughing. So apparently something or someone in my dream has made me laugh. That is not such a bad way to wake up.

Good cover story, Socknitster - I'm sure the jury will give it very careful consideration. And here I thought your name was about darning socks.... If I could get the damn smilies to work, you'd see .....

socknitster wrote:Just had to post this. This morning my husband asked me if I had a bad dream last night. I certainly did!

I was dreaming I was sick and weak and had to defend myself against someone with a knife, a very strange dream that involved vomiting copious amounts of pink goo (sorry, i'm the grand poobah of TMI!) which is odd since I don't vomit--even 4 1/2 months of pretty intense morning sickness couldn't make me toss my cookies.

So, in the dream I knew enough to use my strongest muscles to defend myself--I'm 6' tall and have strong legs due to my workouts on recumbent bike, eliptical trainer and weight machines.

Anyway I woke to my husband going, "hey! Hey! HEY!!!!!" Whilst I kicked the crap out of him!

I sleep on my back to prevent aerophagia, so it is beyond me how I found my target!

I thought REM sleep was supposed to arrest motor control, but I must have had a little leg control last night.

Do you have any weird dream/acting out stories?

Jen
According to the "experts", you can dream in any sleep stage....not just REM.

About 10 or so years ago, I was having a dream.....of which I don't specifically remember the details, but I must have been trying to fight off something or somebody, because I tried to haul off and give it/them a kick with my (right) leg as I was sleeping on my left side. Anyway, the leg momentum threw me out of bed.

I think I sort of woke up in mid-"flight" and caught myself just before I completely hit the floor, but it WAS pretty startling.

Lynne and Liz were college roommates.

Lynne was sitting on her bed reading a book. Liz was sleeping in her bed.

Liz yells "OH GOD NO."

True story.

I miss college.

You guys have given the rest of us some good chuckles.

My story doesn't even involve a dream. We had a really good mattress but the old spring was in pretty bad shape. It was an old box spring and had seen better days. The mattress was protected from damage by putting a 4'x8' sheet of plywood between mattress and spring. But it was like sleeping in a cheap waterbed. Hubby outweighs me by about 80 lbs. Needless to say, neither of us appreciated the other's changing sleep position or bathroom trips.

Daughter finally bought a house, so I decided it was a good time to pass our 65+ year old solid cherry maple bedroom suite down to my granddaughter. I debated between twin beds and a queen size and bought the queen size.

Ha! With the old mattress hubby stayed on his side of the bed. (He even fell out a couple of times since, of course, it "tilted" his way). Now, he's all over the darn bed. If he smacks me one more time w/his arms flopping over when he rolls on his side towards me I'm gonna give him a good swift kick right outta the bed onto the floor, I swear! So I still have just this narrow strip of mattress to sleep on, despite its being a queen size. He gets all the rest. If he wasn't such a good guy I'd trade him in on a goat and shoot the goat!!!

Oh! Then there's this story.

A bunch of us were talking about old movies and I remembered an old Ingrid Bergman movie but couldn't remember the title of the movie.

It was "something' of the "some number" happiness. A caucasian woman leading a group of children thru a war torn Asian country. A song in the movie was that Knick-Knack, Paddy-Wack, Give the Dog A Bone song.

Ever have something bug you? Really bug you? The forgotten name of that movie bugged me for the longest time.

Four or five months later my husband said that in the middle of the night I bolted upright in bed, threw my arm in the air and yelled "In of the Sixth Happiness", then flopped back down dead asleep. I had absolutely no recollection of any of it. Except I did remember the name of the movie the next morning.

Ahhh, the sub-conscious!

Mine isnt completely sleep related, because it is a little drug induced. I was on a pretty heavy dose of codeine for a cough i was having (nothing else was helping) and my wife called it "crazy juice" because it made me do wierd things when I took it right before bed.

One night she said I stood up right out of bed, woke her up, and said "You have GOT to make them stop, I cant take it anymore!". She says I argued with her for about 5 minutes about making "them" stop. Come to find out the next day, she asked me about it, and I vividly remembered the dream, but not getting up and waking her up. I had dreamt I was the social director at a rest home, and the old people kept sneaking into my room at night to wake me up and ask me to rig the bingo games in thier favor.
