Hi all, I am somewhat new to this site. I signed up awhile back, but never really checked it out. Anyway, I will be on hear allot because my doc says that I have OSA. He also wrote me a script for a ResMed Auto Pap, but because I have BCBS I have to have a formal sleep study. Sooooo, I am on the waiting list, patiently waiting until my day. Which is in Sept.
The sleep center tells me to call everyday just in case there is a opening before then. I sure hope I can get one.

I just started a new job in MN 3 months ago, and I already have been fussed at for falling asleep at my desk. I have explained to them why, and they are understanding. But I want this test to be done really soon, so I can start on the road to recovery.

Welcome!

I'm still new at this too... going for my second study with CPAP tomorrow night. But from what I've experienced so far, I can tell you that it's good to keep after them. When my study with CPAP was scheduled more than a week and a half away, I requested a call-in should there be a cancellation. It worked and it was moved up to less than a week's wait. Keep calling them, even if you do need to do it every day. Any time saved is time that you won't have to spend waiting. Also it took almost three weeks for my innitial study results to come in. THis is much too long, I think. You may want to call your doctor too periodically if they don't get back with you about your results within a week or so. Good thing you already have the perscrip. for the machine! You're one ahead of me. I'm just wondering what kind of waiting game it will be to get the result of the second study and actually get the machine in my house to use. For some it goes pretty fast I heard, some as fast as the day after. I hope I won't have to wait another two to thre weeks!

Well the center told me, that I go in early for a pre-consult, then come back that night for the test. The the next morning I get my results. ( Won't hold my breath)

If you doc wrote you a script for auto pap you have another option if you want it. I don't know what your copay and deductable are for the sleep study, and how much the doc that reads your report is going to charge.....

But if you don't want to do the sleep study (some here will agree and some will disagree with me), you can buy your apap online from CPAP.com cash and forget the insurance. You may find out that you pay less by buying the machine outright and not copaying for the sleep study. You will certainly have less hassles.

It is good to have a study, but since you have the script the choice is yours. Your health to do with as you want.

You could have your machine in a day or two and titrate yourself at home.

Whatever you do don't give that script to anyone -- give a copy.

And if you self titrate don't set for less than 6 on the bottom or you will likely have trouble getting enough air to be comfortable.

I hope they do that with me too! I'm not holding my breath either. I loose it too much in my sleep as it is, LOL

I started my process in Mid/Late January and didn't get my script or xPAP until June 5th after two tests.....
Seems like an awful long time and it's a good idea to check with the insurance as was suggested for your deductible.
Fortunately mine is zero, so I'm not out a cent -- but I'm one of the fortunate ones.
You may want to check with insurance to see if they'll cover it after the tests if you purchase it now and start self titrating.

Welcome aboard. You've found an excellent place to get information and support!!!!
Keep us up on how you're doing!!

cheers
gg
