Need advice

Post by rklsk » Sat Jul 14, 2007 6:46 pm

I really wish I had known about this forum before I went for my initial doctor visit after my sleep study. I now know that I left many questions unasked of the doctor. The only parts of the discussion I remember besides how to use my new machine were: 1) My average number of hourly events was 87 and, 2) my oxygen level dropped to 65. Also, during my sleep study they put me on CPAP after 3 1/2 hours of observation. I always thought that you had to have a 2nd night where they got the mask and pressure dialed in. I did question my doctor about this and he said in severe cases it can be done in one night. Does this sound right? With all that being said I need some advice from you good people. I go for my first follow up visit this Friday. What questions do I need to ask my doctor that I didn't do initially? Also, will he give me a copy of my sleep study report if I ask? Thanks once again for all the help you've given me. Ron

Yes, what you had is called a "split study." I had the same type. I was awoken after 2 hours 20 min and a cpap put on me for the titration. Saves money and keeps you from going without treatment for any longer than necessary.

By all means, get a copy of the full sleep study. Get charts and reports. Also get a copy of the Rx for your equipment. You may want to purchase from someone else or on line at a future date.
Ask when your card will be read and the data given to you. Find out what your titrated pressure is and what your AHI was at that pressure. Ask if you had any central or mixed events and how many. Ask if you had periodic leg movements which could also disturb your sleep.
