Try soaking it in a little white vinegar & warm water. My hubby also uses citrus wipes to clean the rubber part every nite. They have a nice smell and keep down the oils and irritation.

Use Johnson Baby shampoo, a little mixed with warm water, leaves mask clean with no odors and will not harm the mask, have used it since starting cpap, works fine.

I use the Johnson's baby soap - lavender. I love the smell and I believe it is mild. (OK, no clue really . . . I just like the smell and HOPE it is mild!!) I figure that I am still trying masks and hope I am not damaging them in the process!

I also use the johnsons lavendar shampoo. I was told to use baby shampoo and since this is what my daughter uses I just hijaked some. lol I figure if you can wash your eyes with it (my eye doctor told me to do this when I had an infection) then it should be gentle enough to use on plastic and silicone.

Listerine is almost pure alcohol! You should never clean your equipment with alcohol!

The smells are probably not limited to the mask. Most plastics, especially soft plastics like tubing, naturally give off small amounts of plasticizers like vinyl chloride (the new car smell).

Those smells used to drive me crazy until I figured out how to use a few drops of essential oil (natural aromatics) to scent the cpap air, which also led me to develop the pur-sleep products.

Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.
