Plumber's tape for Quattro

Post by cwsanfor » Sat Jul 07, 2007 9:53 am

Where do you buy plumber's tape or Teflon tape? Is there only one size width? I understand that some people used three or more wrappings on their Quattro. Has anyone tried just one wrapping in an effort to keep the swivel turning better.

Any other tips on using plumber's tape? I hate to have to tape up a new and expensive mask, but I've heard nothing that suggests Resmed is going to fix the problem.

I was thinking of getting a Quattro. The Activa fits me very well, so I figured the Quattro would as well. Can you tell me what the problem is?

DISREGARD--FOUND THE ANSWER ELSEWHERE. THANKS ANYWAY!

It is called "teflon" tape. It comes in a roll about 3/8" wide. You can get it at any hardware store.

Wally,

You can buy it about any place that has plumbing supplies.....any hardware store or Wal-Mart. It's typically about 1/2" wide and comes on a roll.
It's not "sticky" lile "Duct tape"......it's designed as "thread tape" where you would make a few wraps on a pipe thread to seal it, in lieu of something like "pipe dope", because it's not messy. But, it usually sticks to itself when wrapped.....although I would probably want to put a little tape of some other kind over top of the end where it's snipped off (when used to seal a mask connector). The only color I've ever seen is white.

Hope that helps.

Don't think plumbers tape is what you are looking for. Plumbers tape is a metal strip about 1/2 " wide with holes all along it's length. Far to rigid and hard to bend around small tubes....LOL

Maybe it comes in different widths..... The roll I was sitting here looking at as I was typing my post says 1/2" x 280".

I've seen it in both, 1/2" wide stuff is probably more common. I'm still using a Dayton roll in a metal tin spool I had since the 70's, a roll goes a long way.

And is usually used for hanging pipe (like water pipe).....which is why I always called it "pipe hanger strapping". After the "strapping" is wrapped around the pipe, a bolt and nut can be inserted into the holes to fasten it together. Also works on exhaust pipes on cars in some instances (like when a "hanger" has broken and you don't happen to have a spare handy).

The metal strapping I'm thinking of is more like 3/4" to 1" wide.

Actually, according to this link, it goes by various names.

I was only clarifying it as "teflon" tape, didn't want wally to walk in and ask for plumber's tape and they hand him a roll of this, because that is "plumber's tape" in my book:

The stuff he wants looks like this:

And here's a link with what a roll of Teflon tape actually looks like.

Guess I am lucky. Mine is from a newer lot number and had zero leaks at the elbow. I think they fixed it. I have even taken apart and put the elbow back in and even knocked the stupid elbow off during the night zero leaks. Now to get them to admit they had a problem cause I can tell you .. mine at this point abt 5 weeks into it and apart several times zero leakage at elbow..

I'm another lucky one. Just received mine a few days ago, no problems at all.

Great news!! That makes a few more of us. It appears that the one I got was overnight shipped from a Resmed rep for my DME/Doctor (same person) to test/try... In a thread a while back serval lot numbers were posted those having problem did have smaller (older we assume) lot numbers. Soooo again, looks like they did fix it but again.. getting resmed to admit to it might be an entirely different thread!!
