Hi all,
I have a Respironics but my best friend's mom just got a ResMed Auto Vantage (?) and said that the card is kept OUT of the machine until she needs it. Is that the case? It seemed weird since my smart card needs to be IN the machine to gather data.
Any help/instructions for her would be much appreciated!

I have a ResMed S-8 Vantage. I keep the card out of the machine. There has been no problem. It doesn't actually write data to the card until you tell it to by inserting the card. When you do so, the machine checks the card. If there are settings information on the card, the machine stores those values and erases the card for reuse. If the card is blank, it dumps all the collected data to the card. The screen tells you when the data dump is finished.

That is correct. ResMed machines store the dat within the machine and the Smart Card is used only to transfer data from the machine to the PC (or to another machine).
Respironics machines require that the card be in the machine in order to store data.
Respironics machines require that the card be in the machine in order to store data.
