New mask

Post by kbmitch » Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:18 am

I have been using a Breeze for a couple of years. The only thing wrong with it is nothing stays were I set it. I have used twist ties and tape to try to keep it set up so it works consistently but in the night, something inevitably becomes loose, it develops leaks and I wake up. It has gotten worse with age. So it is time to replace it. Any suggestions for another mask? I sleep primarily on my side and occasionally will sleep on my stomach so the intra-nasal type seems to work better for me. Thanks!

Well, your Breeze is LONG overdue for replacement. Most insurances allow replacement of the mask at least every six months.

In addition to the Breeze there are several other nasal pillow interfaces available. If you go to cpap.com and click on CPAP Masks and the select Nasal Pillows all of the nasal pillow interfaces they offer for sale will come up on their own page. You can then read about them and see pictures of them to help you decide which interest you most.

The ComfortLite 2 is a nasal pillows interface which also has the option of nasal seals OR simple nasal cushions in various sizes coming standard along w/the nasal pillows. That makes the CL2 "almost" 2 interfaces in one.

The Swift is also another popular nasal pillows interface.

The Twilight Aura NP .... has gone thru a couple of name changes but has very dedicated users.

1) Nasal Aire II - No adjustments. Zero. Nada.
2) Twilight Aura, decapitated per this forum's tips
3) Bravo - You can wear it with the Pillows it comes with or the NAII prongs. Again, no adjustments. Set it and forget it.

Good luck!
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

I have looked on line at the masks suggested. The Bravo looks like it might fit the bill because of the various options to wear it and the pillows look similar to the breeze. Anyone else using it? I'd like any feedback you could offer if you are. Thanks!

I've used both Breeze and Bravo. For my money, I'd say Bravo. Much more comfortable FOR ME. I had nose-pulling issues and sore upper lip issues with the Breeze.

HOWEVER, I find that both pillows systems do tend to slide away from my nose when I wiggle my face into the pillow. I think ANY pillows system will do this. If you can manage it, GREAT!

If not, and you're still struggling - Try the Nasal Aire II!

Cheers,
B. - Did I mention I'm down to 3.1 AHI with my NAII?

I have had an issue with the pillows leaking on me when I roll over. I did look at the Nasal Aire II and thing that bothers me is the hoses going up behind the ears. Sleeping on my side, I would think it would be uncomfortable. Did the nasal prongs take some time for you to get used to?

CPAP Mask

I am new to CPAP, about a month or so. I've tried at least 8 masks so far. Finally, I found one to work: The Optilife by Respironics. I like it because it is a nasal pillow mask with a chin strap. It isn't binding; it doesn't put marks on my face; it doesn't cover my face; and the nose pillows are not shoved up in to my nose like with other masks.

I knew I needed a nasal pillow mask because I am a side sleeper, and no other mask allowed me comfort for side sleeping.
Because the head gear does such a good job of holding the nasal pillows in to place without shoving them up your nose, it is ideal. I've had other nasal pillows hurt my nares terribly.

Thank God for this mask. I bought it on ebay for $45. It was a great price and included all the nasal mask sizes.

I thought that too, until I tried it. I lay on it just fine, don't even feel it. Here's my pix of how I wear it:

It took me some time to get the prongs INSERTED, but ZERO discomfort, no "getting used to it". I have found you need to pick prongs that are larger than your nare openings. You sort of fold them and shove them until they are in. Then they are fine. You definitely need to use Ayr Gel, but not too much, or you'll get leaks and prongs will slide right out. I put a little bit of ayr gel on, let it dry, then insert the prongs. Helps alot.

Good luck!
Barbara

PS - Anyone who buys an NAII on my recommendation and hates it, PM me and I'll work a deal with you. There are several people on this board dying to test drive this mask.
