OFF TOPIC...Son going to Iraq!

Post by atruvirgo » Sun Jul 01, 2007 5:05 pm

I know this is off topic but wanted to share that my stepson Dan is being deployed to Iraq in 7 days. If you beleive in the power of prayer our family would be most grateful for your prayer for his safe return. This is a difficult time especailly for my husband. My son received new orders and will be stationed in Misawa, Japan for 3 years. Of course so will his wife and my 2 year old granddaugher. He is a Chinese linguists under Navy Intelligence. My stepdaughter Rachel is at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The other 3 are civilians..Thank God!!!

Again your prayers will be much appreciated!
Debbie

Hi Debbie, My son is a Marine Reservist and missed going to Iraq by two weeks, the rest of his unit went while he was doing specialized training in Texas. I worry all the time that he may be deployed there. On the other hand I am very patriotic and I encouraged him to join the military. My moms family were all career military and my dad was in WW11. I am so proud of our military and pray every day for them,I cry whenever I hear of a military person being killed. Someone has to protect us and our American way of life. Look what happened in London and Glascow this week. You should be proud that your children are patriots and joined the military. We may not agree with this war but our men and women are bravely serving over there. I will pray for you and your family. GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!! PAT

Son going to Iraq!

Post by JennyLouWho » Sun Jul 01, 2007 10:40 pm

Hi Debbie! My thoughts and prayers will be with your family. As the mother of a son who has been back from Iraq for almost 2 years now, I know what your family will be going through. If I may offer some unasked for advice...Do what you have been doing...meaning ask for prayer. It works! Also....do what you have been doing....meaning try to keep as normal a routine as you can. Send as many letters, cards, and "goodie" boxes as is humanly possible. (Which I am sure you will!)When your son comes home for R & R (or after his deployment is up), show an interest in the things he did while overseas, but follow his lead...don't ask questions unless you get that "vibe" from him. Join a support group! Don't believe everything you hear on the news. Don't get upset if he can't tell you specifics about his missions or the exact location of where he is. Thank your son for his service to our country. And... (this is to everyone who reads this post) even if you don't support the war......ALWAYS SUPPORT THE WARRIOR! If I can be of any help, let me know. I know you don't believe this right now, but the time WILL pass and he will be home...safe and sound before you know it. Keep the faith! Jen

Thank you everyone. It's hard to prepare for the day our children grow up and leave home. We spend all those growing years loving and protecting them. Then the day comes where you can no longer protect them and you pray that you have sent them on their way with wisdom and values that will sustain them. I too support the warrior but the war is a different matter.

Jen thank you for sharing your own expereince and advice it is very helpful and encouraging to know others have had firsthand expereince with this situation. Jen...how do we find a support group?

Again...God Bless and Thank you!

My prayers are with you and your family, also. What does your brother do I assume in the Army? Is he stationed at Fort Bragg?
