Resperonics Smart Card
For what it's worth......
A couple of years ago, when this subject was also "hot", someone purchased some "blank" (generic) smart cards from 2-factors to see if they'd work like the blue Respironics cards.....they didn't (at least for that person). They looked the same.....same gold-colored data storage area, but they were white in color instead of the blue, so it was presumed that there's some special piece of information (like some kind of identifier) on the cards themselves, that the PAP machines and the program look for.
It may be that "identifier" that makes the 2800.sys "special".
Don't know.....just passing along what I've observed/read......

Re: smartcard dump
Would someone mind running this dump utility on there working smartcard and send the resulting file to myself or Phil?phil1001 wrote:Hi There,
I would really appreciate if a few people would run the resperonics SmartCardUtility found in the utillities subdirector of the EP install.
The default settings will dump a small file to the c:\ directory called EncoreSmartCardData.bin.
We have been working on this problem offline but neither of us currently has a working smart card. If we get a dump of a good card we will be able to determine if its possible to fix a corrupted card just by dumping working data back to it (or if there is more to it than that)

I had problems with my smart card tonight. Read it and then put it back in my machine and then it started beeping and the lights flashing. Had to reread and erase card?

Patrick, usually if you get those repeated beep-beep-beeps when you've inserted the card into the machine, you can take the card out and re-insert it (gently.) Might have to do that more than once. But you probably tried that before you resorted to erasing it.
I did have a card that I'd been using fine with my M BiPAP Auto all of a sudden start causing the repeated beeps, no matter how carefully I kept re-inserting it into the machine. That card worked fine, however, when I tried it in my older "classic" BiPAP Auto. I didn't erase the card or anything. Just went straight to the other machine with it. Go figure.
One beep means the card has been "accepted" into the machine ok.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Phil managed to get a smartcard dump that fixed this problem for both of us. So if you get a smartcard that you can't erase/format then it might be possible to fix it via this method.jskinner wrote:
Anyone know how to recover from this error... EP is unable to erase the card.

I had the same thing happen to me a while back. Had my smart card out to download and some how erased the darn thing. When I put it back in I got the beeps. tried every thing I could think of and nothing worked. finally left the card inserted and unpledged the machine. When I turned it back on, the card worked OK again. Go figure...

card problems / fixes
Hi,
IMHO this is what I think is happening, the USB reader/writer is very voltage sensitive. Consequently if it is plugged into a USB hub, or a secondary USB device such as a keyboard or maybe on older pc's with older powers supplies, when an erase is done from EP it seems to trash the card.
The symptoms are flashing lights and beeping when inserting the card back into the cpap and when trying to use EP you get the "this is not a valid respironics card".
Both James and I seem to have pieced together and tested a solution that will fix the above issue (for ep 1.8, MAYBE EARLIER). If you broke your card through a different issue such as putting the card in the wash, you are out of luck
We need to write an application that will do this without relying on Respironics software as we cannot distribute this.

I lose the Reader each time I shut off my computer
Hi, since we've touched on the subject of drivers (with VERY talented people talking about it), I had a question... My DT3500 works fine to get the machine data into Encore Pro, but I have to Uninstall and then Reinstall the DT3500 every time I reboot. Once installed, the reader will work fine in that session, until I logoff and shut down the computer. The next time I boot up, it's not able to read the card anymore, unless I uninstall and reinstall the reader.
I keep it plugged into the same USB port all the time (and it's not a hub). Windows XP SP2. The driver used in each reinstall comes from the Encore Pro 1.8.49 CD. Any thoughts? Is there an updated driver I should be using?
Thanks for any help! It's getting a little old, all this uninstalling and reinstalling...

re: reinstalling
Hi johntee,
Yes, I have also got into that loop as well. What worked for me was when I shut my pc down and restarted it, I noticed that I wasnt prompted to install new hardware ie: the usb card reader seemed happy and detected correctly.
So I removed EP 1.8 (leaving my database), restarted the pc, then installed EP 1.8. It now seemed to find the existing dt3500 registry entries and match up everything. Please be careful you dont trash your database during removal/installion of EP1.8
FYI: my DT3500 driver is the one downloaded from the manafacturer directly - you need the EncorePro one (v 1.3) which is the same version that came on the EP1.8 cd and looks to be the same version you have already.

Re: re: reinstalling
Hi Phil. Thanks for suggestion; I'd like to try it. Is there anything special I need to do to preserve my database when I remove Encore Pro? Is it an option during the Uninstall process, or not affected by Uninstall, or do I have to backup a file or directory, etc?phil1001 wrote:So I removed EP 1.8 (leaving my database), restarted the pc, then installed EP 1.8....
