12 volt cord for M Series

Post by jrc » Mon Jun 25, 2007 8:56 am

Hi everyone,

I am planning on taking my Respironics Remstar M Series machine on an RV trip. My vehicle has two deep cycle batteries that provide power via cigarette lighter style outlets.

I see that CPAP.com has special connectors to run from my machine to the cigarette lighter connector.

My question is: do I need one of these Respironics connectors or can I just get one a Radio Shack?

Thanks,

Jeff

My DME RT said the Radio Shack one would be ok. I did get the Respironics one though.
Be aware that the 12v will only run the CPAP and NOT the humidifier.

"The accessory power cord (shielded DC cord) will only power the CPAP machine. If you need to use the heated humidifier, the DC Interface Module (part# F552097) would need to be used. That Module would plug into the cigarette lighter adapter and you would plug the device in just as you do into an AC plug. But, be aware of the increased use of amperage. It is recommended to use a 100 amp-hour 12 volt deep-cycle marine type free-standing battery. That will keep your car battery from being depleted unexpectedly. You would need to purchase a DC Battery Adapter Cable (part# 532209) to allow hook up to the battery. The DC Battery Adapter Cable would interface with the DC Interface Module."

"In order to power both the CPAP and the heated humidifier via DC power, an inverter may be used. The inverter needs to be 300 watt with 500 watt max."

For warranty reasons I guess it's best to get the official connector. That way they can't blame you if something is up.
