Installing Encore Pro 1.8 over 1.6

If you have EP 1.6 installed and want to upgrade to 1.8, is it necessary to save your patient files or uninstall 1.6?

I assume that you can just install 1.8 and it will preserve the patient files, but I'm not sure. 1.6 is taking a hella long time to back up my files, and I'm not sure it's going to. Ordinarily I remove the old app and install clean, but with this software, I'm not sure.

James, any issues with EPA? I assume it will be plug and pray ...

I would not trust them. Easier and cleaner to export your "patient" data, uninstall v1.6, install v1.8, import the file.

There were database format changes between 1.6 and 1.8 I think, it should find the old version and convert but then they csn't write a clean interface to start with...

Thanks, mhacker. Actually, what happened is EP 1.6 finally finished the backup, and I installed 1.8 on top of 1.6 (I know, always risky, but I was impatient).

It seems to have gone fine. The installer is pretty intelligent this time, and converts the databases and whatnot. It actually may be better to install over the old, although probably if the old 1.6 had been removed, it would have left the data in place, and the db conversion would have taken place anyway. But anyway, this way works.

How did you folks acquire your copy of Encore 1.8? I can't find it anywhere.

I never backed up or uninstalled anything, I just installed it right over the 1.6 and it picked up everything and my data was still intact.

The MSDE engine automatically creates a backup of your database.
