My New Activa

Post by Lee Lee » Sat Jun 16, 2007 8:17 am

I read everything I could get my hands on and , armed with all the info, decided to purchase an Activa mask.
I had been using the FP HC407, but my pressure has gotten higher and it leaks like a sieve at 12.4.
I knew there was going to be a little hump or bump when it adjusted, I just didn't realize it was going to be on every breath. Boy, is that distracting! I haven't actually spent the night with the thing yet, just did some foolin' around at naptime.
Does this bother anyone else that uses this mask? Will it go away, or get less noticeable? Otherwise, this may be a fatal flaw.

I had that problem a few times and found out that it is one of two things.
1. The inner mask is not on the frame all the way around or
2. One of the blue tags from the frame are not locked in place.

Try looking at those two things. If that seal is tight it is very quiet.

I found that with my Bi-Level pressure of 16/11 the Activa is, for me, the best mask regarding leaking at higher pressure settings. Also I believe you will/may come to think of that breathing "change" you experience as sort of a hypnotic "lull" that helps you fall asleep - but it will take a month or three to get that used to it. However, no one said sleep apnea therapy was fun or easy.

Check out http://www.internetage.com/cpapinfo/leak-rates-1.html
for the expected or normal leak rates of various mask types at differing pressures.

Good luck and best wishes.
Andy

I checked everything, looks like it's all where it's supposed to be. I really want this mask to work, it was expensive and highly recommended.
Since it's Saturday night (date night) I guess I'll give it a whirl.
Thanks.

I found with the Activa that the pulsing action of the mask seemed to be more noticeable when I first put it on, and it would diminish during the night so that eventually I didn't notice it at all. I also found it was worse when the straps were tighter.

Good luck with it!

I notice that more when it is tight as well. I have mine so loose now though that it doesn't happen at all. Something I find strange with it is that it will be great for several nights in a row and then suddenly I cannot stop the leaks. I am sure it has something to do with how relaxed I am feeling and position changes on the pillow but it is frustrating. You also have to make sure it is squeaky clean and that your face is or it will slip. I am so used to having good sleeps with it that I yawn as I reach for it every night. Power of suggestion Hang in there.
