CPAP use in tv shows
By Jove, I think you guys have the beginnings of a book plot! Keep going and I'll show it to my wife. You'd be amazed what she can do with the smallest kernel of an idea.
Jennmary, when people start dating there is always some personal issue(s) that one or the other (or both) are self conscious about. This is like anything else, the guy will either accept you for who you are and respect you for taking care of yourself or he won't. If he won't, well...he ain't the right one and you don't need him anyway. It's a voyage of discovery with each other. I've been with my wife for 22 years and haven't stopped discovering. And...she's not wearing earplugs to bed anymore and is definitely sleeping better. She realizes that adjusting to the CPAP life has not been easy for me and that, in addition to the health benefits to me, a huge reason that I'm doing it is to improve her sleep. She very definitely appreciates it. A happy wife=a happy life!
Also, don't forget that night time is only one part of the day and the bedroom is only one location. Don't limit yourselves, there are SO many other possibilities.

What a lovely reply Twolf!
I feel for you jenmary, but agree if a guy is freaked by cpap he is not a keeper. You might actually use it as a barometer--if you mention your apnea/cpap on a certain # date and he shudders, no more dates for him!
BZZZZZZZZZ. You lose!
Like a gameshow! It could really be a great tool you could use to your advantage to weed out the losers!

BTW, My husband is thrilled I'm on cpap. He can already see a big diff in my energy level and happiness. He has not complained once with all of the middle of the night cursing, fumbling, crazy blue lights on the machine, mask farts, regular farts (and burps). He has been nothing but supportive in my quest for the right therapy no matter the cost. I feel really, really lucky. You will find someone like him, I'm sure!

Yeah, my wife no longer has to elbow me because my snoring woke her up.TWolf wrote:And...she's not wearing earplugs to bed anymore and is definitely sleeping better.
She does elbow me when the Mask Leak alarm wakes her up though.

How many people are diabetics and either take insulin, or wear a pump? It's a situation they learn to live with, and lead very happy normal lives. Same thing for CPAP. There are many other similar situations, and we all have one thing or another that makes us unique. I agree, if you find someone who can't deal, "throw 'em back".
jennmary, are they mask marks or strap marks? If they're strap marks, have you ever tried the pad-a-cheeks? I hear they are great for more comfortable straps and no strap marks the next morning!jennmary wrote: Then the next morning we can have breakfast with him staring at my fresh mask marks.

When I was getting ready to purchase all the equipment, my husband asked me if I had to wear that stuff every night. I said "Yes" and "This is probably going to kill our middle of the night sex." He just looked at me, perplexed, like he had no idea what I was talking about - guess it's been too long. Lol!

Jennmary,
I'm sure it makes you a bit self-conscious, but you've got to know it's important. And as has been said already, if he has a problem with your CPAP, he's not a keeper anyway.
Sometimes when I'm in a difficult situation, I use (bad) humor to lighten things up.
So maybe you should just tell "him" that nobody has offered you a b-job lately, so you brought your own. That will likely get a rise out of him, or get me kicked off this forum.. One or the other anyway.
Good Health,
LyleHaze

Re: CPAP use in tv shows
[quote="HeatherN"]My kids like to watch a tv show on the disney channel called "Drake and Josh". I happened to catch a scene this afternoon, where the two main characters(teenagers) were in a bedroom where an older male relative was asleep with a CPAP on! They wanted to wake him up so they ended up unplugging the machine, and then he was making all kinds of weird noises. One picked up a baseball bat like he was going to wack the machine and the other kid stopped him. Not exactly great education about sleep apnea but it was the first time I have ever seen CPAP use on TV that was not an educational show about apnea.Have you ever seen any other shows that reference sleep apnea at all? Found it kind of interesting.
Rooster, that couldn't have happened. CPAP wasn't invented until about 1982. At least, that's what I was told.... I mean read:

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Cool. I am a friend of Josh Souza from Season 1 of BB (as well as his previous girlfriend and almost winner of All-Stars Erika Landin, not to mention Scott Long. I worked with Josh on a TV Show (E!'s "Kill Reality"), Movie ("The Scorned") as well as the now defunct Reality Star website ("TheFishbowl.com).tiredofbeingsleepy wrote:I love Big Brother and watch it every summer! (Totally mindless TV entertainment!) I must have missed someone using CPAP - of course I wasn't looking for it either!
There have been several men on their who snore like crazy - George, from season 1, for example! Talk about freight train!
