Resmed Quattro Full Face Mask

Post by sleepyred » Sat Jun 09, 2007 5:40 am

I have tried the Quattro for 3 nights and I'll say - I love it!

I was fitted with a medium and after the mask was placed on my face, hooked up to my machine and the RT left (I go to my sleep center and they actually let you take a short nap with your mask!) - the 1st thing I did was to get the adjustment she made all out of whack to see how long it would take me to "de-leak" it once I had changed all her adjustments. Well - it only took a few adjustments - and no leaks!

Pros: I really like the dial for the forehead piece. If I wake up with a leak a the nose - just a couple of clicks and it's stopped.

They have improved the cushion, IMHO, 100%! I no longer have the "jaw dropping OMG, I'm leaking like a sieve at the chin!"

I really like the quick release clips on the Resmed masks. If I get up at night with a dry mouth, it's easy to unclip one side and take a sip of water with a straw.

I did have some "blow fish" times, but much less than with the UMFF. I don't get this with the new cushion as bad as with the UMFF mask.

Very nice to be able to easily take off the cushion to wash it.

I am a side sleeper and it does not leak when I turn over on my side. I'm used to what others call the "bulkiness" of the activa, so the size on my face does not bother me at all.

Cons: They don't have the cushion like the activa yet, but are getting close. Might not be able to since it is a full face mask. They also took the quick release clips off the top - don't know if that will be an issue or not.

It does seem to be a bit more noisy than the UMFF, but it does not bother my hubby at all.

It is a bit heavier to me than the UMFF mask, but worth it.

Overall impressions - the 1st Full face mask I've kept on all night long. I've always said my activa was my all time favorite, but I had to use a chin strap which was bothering my TMJ.

Time will tell if I go back to my activa or that I've switched to the Quattro. But I'm glad to have a FF mask to use - finally!

SleepyRed:

Great information, very helpful and very happy you are doing well with the Quattro! I am looking to try one also for the congested, sinus times etc!

ANYONE have a LARGE Quattro that they cannot use due to whatever reasons and want to SELL it or TRADE it for a NEW Swift II (Large size pillows only)NEW in carry case, headgear, instructions etc?

If so please PM me with particulars!

All the best,

Steve,

Glad to hear you found something that works well for you Sleepyred! Funny how people prefer different masks, isn't it? I guess that's why where are so many options out there.

I was very hopeful for the Quattro, but after a week or so its a complete bust for me. First, leaking through the center elbow connector made so much noise I couldn't sleep. I just thought it was an extraordinarily noisy mask, but after seeing some others had the same issue, I taped the connector, and that fixed that problem, but the other leaks around the face were not so easily fixed. The mask is just not a fit for my face. I also have tried (and paid for) the last resmed , and couldn't get it to stop leaking either. It leaks both around the eyes and the sides of the mouth. I can get it to not leak as I go to sleep, but it is such a delicate fit that it will leak if I turn my head just 10 degrees in any direction... so while I can fall asleep ok, I'm constantly waking up from the leaks. This in my 5th mask, and only one has actually worked for me, but its a nasal mask (Activa), and since I have to both wear a chinstrap and tape my mouth, which I HATE doing, I've been hoping for an Activa style full face mask, but unfortunately, the Quattro has nothing to do with the the way the Activa works.

I'm desperate for a FFM that works for me, but after spending a small fortune on masks over the past year, its hard to justify buying more on blind faith that it may work, only to find out it doesn't and be stuck with it.

I'm glad it works for some people, but don't understand why they don't do an Activa style FFM, considering both how comfortable and how well sealing the Activa is.

David, that sucks. The Quattro is working for me, but I am not getting any noise from the elbow. I truly hope you find a mask soon.

My quattro started leaking more and more at the elbow last night. I'm calling my RT on Monday and Resmed - wonder if it is a defect?

Other than that - I can stop all other leaks. My hubby says he cannot hear the leak at the elbow - strange.

Sleepyred:

Wrap the elbow joint with plumbers teflon tape and snap it back together-It should stop that leak there! I have used the teflon tape for a long time on various mask joints and it has worked very well! Of course I would voice a complaint to resmed etc, as others have brought up the leak issue where you describe- shouldn't have that problem with it after shelling out $200+!

Hope this helps!

Steve - thanks for the tape idea - my hubby was unsure about snapping it out - is it easy to do this? He did not want to damage it - and let me have a chance to take it back to the sleep center for a replacement - then he is ready for the "taping" if that does not work.

I just love the mask and don't want a squeaky elbow to ruin it for me! Thanks again!

Yes I have used this fix many times over the years on various joints where they "snap together"! I also have read recently of users with the Quattro having the leak where you describe and a few reported using the teflon tape fix with good results, so if you find the posts (I think they were posted in the last few weeks) they will give you more insight on it! I think it would work ok without a problem, but I don't have the Quattro yet, so I would see if you can read those other posts etc.

Hope this helps,

I think the reason for doing away with the strap clips on the forehead is that some ppl (like me) don't really use them. I just slip the top strap around the crown of my head and then secure the bottom clips after the mask is on.

Just a guess, but it might explain it.
