FF mask recommendation?
FF mask recommendation?
After 2 months of treatment and still not feeling significantly better, I am ready to try a full face mask and figure out if mouth leaks are the issue (I do not have the usual symptoms of dry mouth or noise during sleep, but my leak rates have been about 15-20% higher than expected, without sign of mask leakage...)
I have a smaller head than most (Breeze mask was too large, even at the smallest setting) and I have a goatee (trimmed very short). Face shape is on the round side (yes, I am about 20-30 lbs overweight!).
Any recommendation for a full face mask? (I currently tolerate the Optilife medium sized nasal pillow, and I just received my Bravo! but did not do well on the first night, small pillows being too small, and medium too large... will try again over the weekend)
I will probably offer my Comfortlite 2 at the mask roulette for a FF mask, but I'd rather know what to ask for in advance!
Thank you for your feedback.

PS: I know it is hard to recommend a mask, and I am not expecting miracles, just POV's (and some humor, of course)

Quattro
I just got a Resmed quattro yesterday - last night was my 1st night on a full face mask that I actually kept on all night! I mouth breathe, use chin straps, and have been grinding my teeth trying to keep my mouth shut!
Will give a better review of the mask when I've tried it for a few nights, but so far - I like it!

I have had the quattro for over a week, and really like it. I got an xs because I have a small face (only xs thing in my wardrobe!). I also like the Ultra Mirage, but I think that the Quattro is better, since it is more adjustable. SO people have had problems with leaks, but my leak rate is normal for the mask and with some adjusting, I have had no large leaks and my AHI last night was 2.2. Definitely worth trying on!

I love my UMFF. Leak rate was terrific. AHI was only at 4, AI was 0. HI was 4.
It is comfortable for me. I also want to try the quatro but I hear that it is wider at the bottom....and I am a side sleeper. The UMFF is just the right size that I can comfortably side sleep and not worry about it.
This is my first mask.....and I am in hurry to get another. (though I do keep browsing...kind of like looking at cars in the classifieds even though you have a new BMW in the driveway. lol)
I might eventually try the quattro....just to try something new.

Yes, it is wide and for me, also a side sleeper, it is a bit annoying. I am going to try my UM again for a while and see what kind of difference there is in my sleep (and my neck, which is not that happy with my head angle on the pillow now!). But other than that, I do find the Q quite comfortable.jennmary wrote: .... I also want to try the quatro but I hear that it is wider at the bottom....and I am a side sleeper. ....

Quattro
But I find that even if it is a little wider - I don't get the leaks at the cheeks!
So far, so good for me. I took a nap and had zero leaks for the 1st time! It was only for 1 hour, so I did not get into a deep sleep, nor did my face get sweaty. But so far, I love the quattro much better than the UMFF mask which I could not get to quit leaking. But I was using one size too big - so I'm going to try a small when I can!

Well, I tried to UMFF again last night for a while, and went back to the Q. The cheek is wider on the Q, but the forehead piece on UMFF is way wider than the Q and I found that to be more of a problem. I put on the Q and had it leak free in seconds, and after a couple of minutes I was still fiddling with the UMFF.
And my UMFF is small and Quattro an XS, so fitting is an issue. I am so glad they brought the Q out in XS!

Xian,
As you can see by my sig, I'm a mask collector, and FF-only guy, but I can't really give you much useful advice. It's been all trial and error. I am very fortunate in my insurance coverage (no limit on masks at all).
The CF2, Quattro, and HC432 are my best masks, in that order. I only rotate into the Hybrid if I have a nasal bridge mishap.
I'm trying to quit this mask'o'the month stuff, but even now, I'm sitting here thinking that maybe the Hans Rudolph would somehow be like the kiss of an angel for me, knowing that it won't be. But I'll probably get around to it as well, in a weak moment.
I envy the folks who get handed a Breeze or whatnot and never need another mask. At least my go-to mask is a cheap one; about as good of a break as you get in this business.

Quattro
The leaking from the Quattro seems to be more of a "hissing" after a few days in the lab. We're not sure, but it may be in the design. We had the exact same problem with the new Liberty, although the mouth area seems to be a little too small for some patients, causing leaks. There's a good bit of nasal pressure from the trampoline affect with the liberty that seems to be the cause of some discomfort. The Hybrid still seem to be very well accepted and has new reimbursement the first of next month.
There are some easy fixes that may work for the Quattro that I can post this afternoon.

Re: Quattro
Who do you work for? If you know any fixes for the quattro - please share!
