Swift II's leak? Just bought one!!

Post by TheeMrFrog » Mon Jun 04, 2007 11:02 am

J bought a Swift II Friday and have until 5 PM today to return it. It is working fine but members are saying they leak. Should I return it and get another brand? I sleep on my side. Thanks for any advice since I am new at this. Mr Frog

Well, HAS IT LEAKED FOR YOU???? If it works for you, keep it. If it doesn't work for you, try something else.

I'm really liking my NasalAireII right now. I'm a side sleeper, and don't like having all that hard stuff down by my nose.

Good luck!
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

I've been using the Swift II for a month and my leak rate is excellent. Two nights ago I had no leaks, just a straight line across the graph on the Encore Pro software. Normally, I have a few minor blips.

I side sleep on my left side only, due to GERD, but got a pillow that doesn't interfere with the mask which helped make it even better, but the leak rate was very good even before that. Sleeping on both sides might be a problem, but I never tried it. My pressure is 7.5-9 currently on an autopap. More leaks show up at higher pressures.

Pillow that doesn't interfere with Swift

Rosemary,

What kind of pillow did you get that doesn't interfere with the mask?

I have been using it with out any problems due to leaks. I might get one very minor one when I sleep on my stomach. About 85% of my time is on my right side, it does not leak then, but I shift to my left side for the balance of the night. Once and awhile I will be a leak (very slight) when the hose is between me and the pillow. I sleep with a body pillow and a water pillow for my head. This combination works very well for me.

I have ben using a swift II for over two weeks now, I had a nasal aire I and wanted to get a nasal aire II, my DME told me that everyone was using the swift II and asked if I wanted to try it. I tried it and it is now my main mask device.

Remember don't tighten the staps too much, just snug them up.

It sometimes develops small leaks when I shift from say back to side , but it only takes a quick reposition with one hand to put it back in position. Mine is putting just the slightest pressure up to my nostrals,so it is very comfortable but will move if pulled by the hose.

highly recommended !! in my opinion

Yeah, mine started leaking after about a month. It leaks from where the elbow and cap plug in on the sides. I wrapped the end of the elbow and cap in teflon tape which helped a bit, but still the slightest bump will cause it to start leaking again.

I wonder if this is a manufacturing issue with the new mask (mine is a Swift 2). I will say that I have moved the elbow and corresponding plug several times, trying out different configurations to see what is most comfortable. I've unplugged the elbow and moved it maybe a dozen times in the last month, which doesn't seem like a lot, but maybe it wears out quicker if you unplug it a lot. :dunno:

I just picked up a Bravo from cpap.com today (got their last one) - I can't wait to try it out tonight.

I wonder if you just got a bad one, and if so would it be under warranty, they are not cheap and everything else made can be defective. For what we or our insurance pays for this medical equipment I would not setle for a leaking elbow after a month.

Hmm that gives me two weeks, I'll ley you know if mine starts.

I definitely plan to contact the DME where I got the mask and see about a replacement. I went ahead and bought the Bravo because I wanted to try out a different mask anyway, and this will make it easier to exchange the Swift without having to go without my mask, if even for a night or two.

Hi Babette

That is a nasal canula isn't it. I was thinking about that also but got scared off having a prong up my nose.

Have you had it long and have you had any problems with a sore nose ?

I will need to pick an interface soon and am thinking mirage Swift

My titration was with the original Swift and the tech said it seemed to suit me

though it was a little hard to exhale against. I have heard the mirage Swift

II might be even more difficult to exhale against

I love this mask, however, my first two nights were not great. As soulfixinman stated, leave the straps loose. This mask seals well but will give you a sore philtrum if you tighten the mask down, and the leak rate seems to go up at the same time, is suppose that is from the deformation of the seal due to being squished out of shape.

After I figured that out it seals fast and sure. The amount the seals go into your nostrils is very minimal. I am a new poster here and do not have all of the experience that others may have, but this thing works very well for me.

with x-pap you to can be supercharged

I went to Meijer (a regional superstore like KMart) and got a Maximum Comfort, which has "superslick microfiber" and seems a lot like down. (I'm allergic to feathers, so can't use down). It does squish down a lot like down, so it does not interfere with the mask.

Some people swear by the Shapeable pillow available at Target for around $12, which I checked out, but it didn't have as much give, it seemed to me. I think you can shape it, though, and it reportedly doesn't interfere with the mask as much. I like a thinner pillow because too high a one hurts my neck.

Well, the first night with the Bravo wasn't all that impressive. I never could get it adjusted right. If I did get it sealed to where it didn't leak, the slightest movement would make it leak again. And we're talking massive leaks here, not just little ones. I just don't think I've figured out the strap positioning and exactly how to adjust the straps. After 2 hours of messing with it, I ripped it off and went back to the Swift so I could get some sleep.

I'll keep trying, but I'm starting to wonder if this was a mistake. I am a side sleeper, and probably should have got something like the Breeze or CL2, but they look so uncomfortable from the pictures. I should have tried one of those first and returned them if they didn't work, but now I'm stuck with the Bravo because cpap.com doesn't offer the return insurance on it yet because it's so new. Hopefully I can make it work tonight.
