Question for Road Warriors

Post by Lee Lee » Fri Jun 01, 2007 3:56 pm

I am traveling this week to a convention. I went to the same hotel last year.
I know that the headboard is glued to the wall. Does anybody have an idea about how to hang my hose higher than my head? Is there some kind of hook I can buy?

I saw some sort of hook on ebay that you slide under the mattress.

Does is have to be higher than your head? Mine is just on my pillow.

I just get small threaded hooks (usually gold colored) and screw 'em in the ceiling. I carry a bungee cord with me to hang on the hook and make a loop in the low end and run my hose thru that.

When you leave the room you can kind of smooth over the small hole with your finger or a little white toothpaste.

If I'm gonna be there more than one day, I take the bungee cord down, but leave the hook in the ceiling. No one has ever noticed it that I could tell.

Good luck

I read a post a while back where they used a removable wall hook (you know the kind you hang up Christmas garland with?) Seems like they hold up to 5 lbs. Probably would need a scrunchie with it, but would do for a temporary fix and wouldn't leave any holes.

Just a thought.

I have used these on all kinds of surfaces with no problems. They come with extra adhesive strips so you can reuse them. You can get them at drug stores, supermarkets, just about anywhere.

Wow, Jeff.

If you'd like a way to hang your hose without damaging anything (eek!) you can use what I use: the 3M Cord Bundler. It works perfectly. I use it in my bedroom, actually, but when I'm traveling, I just take it down (it uses those Command adhesive strips, which pull off without damaging the wall) and take it with me. The adhesive strips are really cheap. I honestly don't understand why everyone doesn't use them - they're cheap, they're small and travel well, and they work perfectly. I had a hard time picturing how it would work with the hose - but trust me, it does. I still haven't had to replace the original I bought, either, and that was more than a year and a half ago (and I've taken lots of trips during that time!). You can find them in some Walmarts (not all for some reason), Lowes, or wherever else you can find 3M Command hooks. This is what it looks like: http://cableorganizer.com/cord-bundler/

Hope that helps.

As a newbie, I started out hanging the hose from overhead.

After some months, I started running the hose down my chest to my navel and then out the side of the bed to my machine which sits on a one-foot tall bed tray. When traveling, I sit the machine on a hard-side suitcase or an ottoman.

With the hose positioned like this, I can sleep on my back and easily roll to either side. During cold months it has the additional advantage of heating the top half of the hose with my body heat - no Aussie heated hose to bother with!

I have used this method of hose positioning with the Fischer & Paykel 432 FF mask and my favorite, the Hybrid mask. Works great with both.

I also have Swift nasal pillows, but I have only used them with the hose coming from overhead. I don't believe they would work well with the hose running down your chest.

College Girl,
On my way to to find a cord bundler. What a relief! I have to have my hose hanging, I'm such a tosser and turner. Laying it across my chest doesn't work for me. I just wonder what the airport security people are going to think of me with all my machinery and gadgets!
Thanks for the suggestions.
Lee Ann

How very timely. I too am going to a conference this week and it's my first time traveling with my CPAP stuff. I was wondering the same thing. Looks like I'll be going out to pick up a cord bundler. Thanks!

Lee Lee your conference isn't in Philly is it?

I went to 6 stores , but finally found the Cord Bundler and it's perfect! Everyone who travels should have one of these! I'm so happy that I can use my machine and get my sleep! Thanks again!

What a great solution! I am a tosser and turner too, but also have an insulin pump attached so am used to moving things while asleep. I love the idea though and think I will get some just in case.

Lee Lee, I took the cpap, hose cover, a couple of extension cords (very useful, thanks to whoever mentioned it here!!!) and all my other medical stuff in my cpap bag and airport security did not blink. They said they saw them all the time when I asked. We are the newbies to travelling with them!

Have fun!
