Mirage Activa exhaust noise

Post by Guest » Fri May 25, 2007 4:38 am

I just got a Mirage Activa nasal mask and it is very comfortable. My problem is exhaust noise. It has 4 small holes for exhaust and is quite loud. Anybody else experience this? Suggestions to reduce the noise?

TIA.

I don't notice a loud noise with my activa - unless I happen to block the vent holes in any way with a sheet or my hand by accident. But I have a low pressure - of 6-10 on apap.

I don't notice the noise - and my hubby thinks it is the quietest mask I've had.

The vent holes are actually on the connector piece - I'd make sure all your connections are correct, which I'm sure you have. Just make sure nothing is blocking the vent holes.

Good luck

If I remember correctly the vent holes are in a whitish flexible piece that snaps on and off. Make sure that it is snapped on all the way. I spent one horrible night with the Activa where the noise kept me awake all night and it was becasue the piece with the vent holes had come off.

Yeah, I fooled with the vent piece several times trying to make it quieter. Unsuccessful so far. Thanks.

The Activa is not the quietest mask around. I always felt it sounded a bit like an airliner taking off. I have since moved on......

You probably have already checked but look and feel around the area where the plastic ring seals into the silicone. A couple of times I have had loud noises and found a small area of the ring that was not fully inserted. Also check to see if the tab at the bottom is inserted into its slot. It's easy to click the sides in and leave that tab slightly askew and air will whistle out.

Use a fan in your room to create some white noise. Use some earplugs. Use a different mask (I bet you'd love the Soyala).

Leaks?

Post by sleepyred » Fri May 25, 2007 4:04 pm

I'll throw this idea out - I have a very, very low leak rate with my mirage -
so the noise stays steady - the hybrid, comfort classic, aura, etc. all were quiet masks - but with LOUD leaks and with high rates of leakage.....

Something to ponder if the mirage does not leak for you......

My dear hubby tolerates me in my mirage with low leakage much better than a large leak in another mask....

Just got my new Activa today and fired it up to fit it. Mine did not seem noisy to me at all. I can hear a bit of a swoosh on inhalation, but not at all loud enough to be annoying.

I need to qualify that with the fact that I do have minor hearing loss, so I don't hear sounds in a really high range, which can be good if there are birds outside my window at 5:00 a.m. or a screaming child on a plane . Past a certain pitch, I hear nothing.

Well its a moot point for about a week. I lost a small piece while washing it today and have ordered the $2.49 replacement part and must wait to listen to it again. I am an idjut.

I also have this mask. The first one that I had made so much noise and I called the company and they said send it back. Turns out the one I had was defective.

Mine is quiet as well but did make noise the times I did all of the above...didn't click the bottom of the cushion holder, didn't have the cushion in the holder properly and for the first while I didn't know that the plastic swivel thing swivelled. I didn't have it clicked in properly either and was amazed when I discovered that i could swing around. I hardly know I am wearing a mask with the activa and no leaks. I hope you figure out what is wrong. good luck
