Last night was my first night with CPAP

Post by dvsid1 » Wed May 23, 2007 11:19 am

I have an AHI of 80.6 and a min blood oxygen sat of 70% before the CPAP. I woke up this morning bone dry feeling like my mouth had been open hanging out the window of a speeding train for days. I used all the water in the humidifier. My CPAP is set at CFLex with a pressure of 17.

Is there anything I can do to prevent the dry mouth?

Thanks in advance

Yep!
Even though you don't have your equipment listed in your profile, it's obvious that you're using a nasal mask and losing your therapy air out your mouth.

A few options......Tape your mouth shut, Polident adhesive strips placed between the lips, a chin strap (most report these not working well) or a full face mask.

Your therapy isn't going to work until you seal the leak.

Welcome to the gang!

Unfortunately, your healthcare service failed to adequately infrom you about your treatment.

You need to keep your mouth closed when using PAP treatment ... which explains why you woke up with a dry mouth and an empty humidifier.

Make sure you get a copy of your sleep lab study as you will need to learn what information in it relates to your treatment.

Also make certain you get a copy of your original prescription as you may need to upgrade equipment.

Come back here and learn as much as you can ... start by reading the info linked to the yellow light bulb at the top of the page.

Best wishes.

A full face mask will at least cover your mouth (and nose) and more than likely help keep it shut. I've found it's easier to nose-breathe with my Ultra Mirage Full Face (UMFF).

I'm using a 432 (until Friday!) and it is much easier to nose breath with a FF. At least, that's with me trying a nasal make for 15 minutes, and using a FF for 72 hours (according to my machine)
