OK.....that explains THAT. Now we can dispense with talking about minimum and maximum pressures......just THE pressure.

First (or at the same time) get any leakage under control and keep moving the pressure up till the AHI comes down (are you getting your stats from the LCD or software?).......and you're feeling better (may take a little time).

Don't make too many (drastic) changes at once.....give each pressure change a few days to see results.

AND.....keep us informed.

Best wishes,

Den

Hi again Den. My machine is definately an S8 Elite and there is indeed a low pressure setting and a high or max i guess. I accessed the clincians menu and set the min pressure from 4up to 7 and the max pressure at 9. I actually just had a nap and when i checked the efficacy data i noticed that i reached a pressure of 9.6. So now im very cnfused what does this all mean. If i had set the pressure at 9 why did it jump to 9.6. Does this mean that i need to increase it more?

silverde:

I am a bit confused also-I saw you had the S8 elite listed and as far as I know it is a singe pressure machine! The S8 vantage which I have is the Auto. Den (wulfman) and I are saying about the same thing! After trying to get the mouth breathing thing under control by taping etc (in the future you may meed a full face mask) I would set it aprox 10 cm pressure If it's the Elite, if it is an Auto try a range of say 8 to 12 etc. If you do not have the software yet, the machine will give you some feedback, after whatever settings you use for the night, 90%, Ahi's, Hi's etc. and also how you FEEL after that setting! Go back and read my first post to you, as if you have the Elite I suggest setting it at apox 10 for tonight! Another thing you could do if you think it's an Auto giving a range of min & max pressure, you can just set it to CPAP mode not Autoset at the pressure you choose, and see how that goes for a few nights! Any other questions you have-post them and we will try to get you squared away as best we can!

All the best,

Steve,

OOPS IM SO STUPID!

Post by silverde » Wed May 16, 2007 6:32 pm

Dear Steve and Den. Ok OK I went and played with my machine again just to double check. I think where my confusion starts is with the fact that i didnt take the time to read what i was changing! What i thought was a "low" pressure setting was actually CPAP "start" pressure! So i am assuming this is what the machine starts at and then ramps up to whatever you have it set at. Terribly sorry guys i feel terrible wasting your time with dumb questions. Ok that said i had it set at 9 and the pressure from efficacy memory said i reached a pressure of 9.6 or whatever. Why is this and what does it mean.?

Silly questions make me sorry!

Ryan,

These aren't "dumb" questions. The more you learn about your therapy the better off you'll be.......because it's a foregone conclusion that the "medical professionals" are NOT going to tell you what you need to know.

Just remember......we ALL started out knowing nothing about this condition and the therapy that goes with it.

That being said.....I have to admit that I am not that well versed in the ResMed machines.....how they work or how they do their calculations.....I've only used the Respironics machines. That's why it helps to have many people on these forums.

Hopefully, one of the ResMed gurus (like Steve) will be able to answer your 9.6 question.

Den

silverde:

Ok, I think you are getting confused by the ramp and regular settings for cpap etc! I do not have the Elite. but I am sure it's probably the same to set up for CPAP! Ok try the following:

go in to the clinical menu: Press the DOWN and RIGHT keys simultaneously for 3 seconds!
Go to the settings menu!
If EPR setting is on this machine set it 1, 2 or 3 etc.
the start cpap screen I beleive is the RAMP-turn it OFF for now!
cpap screen: set it to 10 this is your fixed pressure and will stay at this setting until you change it! I suggest you try this a few nights and read the feedback on the LCD in the morning and see how you are feeling at this pressure setting!
Max ramp screen: time in ramp OFF or 0 if you can!
Mask screen: set to activa!
If any others on this menu set them as you wish!

I am going by the vantage clinical manual so your menu may be somewhat different! If anyone with the Elite can clarify anything please do!

silverde, the MAIN thing is to get in the clinical menu and get your pressure setting to 10 or where you want to start at and raise it gradually until your stats are GOOD and you FEEL good!

Let me know how this goes!

Best to you,

Steve,
ufo13

Thank you so much Steve. Yes everything works as you said. I had already performed all the changes that you suggested previously, exept for turning the ramp off - which i will. It doestn bother me at all to wear the mask at full pressure right from the start, so thats what ill do. Ok I wont take up any more space on here until tommorow when i know something!

Ill post with my results in the AM

Thanks again

You talked about trying to eliminate mouth breathing. Did you do it for sure. If you havent eliminated mouth breathing you are wasting your time changing pressures because you will not know if you are not doing well because of pressure loss thru your mouth or from low cpap pressure. cpap does not work at any pressure if you breath through your mouth unless you are wearing a full face mask. Also make sure your mask is well sealed. Ask your wife to observe you during sleep to check these two things out.

You will get there!

Ryan:

As Den said when you need help the ONLY dumb question is the one you didn't ask! I think you are now on your way to getting this therapy working for you, and as you do more tweaking, and asking questions, reading posts etc. you WILL get there! Many GREAT people on this forum, with more KNOWLEDGE then you will find elsewhere, and they all will share it with you. I hope tonght will be the start of many, many great nights of sleep for you! Keep us posted on your progress, and keep asking questions on anything that is not clear to you!

All the best,

Steve,

Hi Steve, thanks for asking but not too much different here. I tried 10 for pressure, turned off the ramp and taped my mouth. I still had a pretty good headache but thought i felt more energetic yesterday. Last night I increased it to 11 (i know i should give it longer but really just want to feel normal!) and felt fairly crappy(headache, brain fog and tired!) Soooo I guess we'll see tonight. Im pretty sure im not losing pressure from my mouth but... i've been using duct tape and its kinda harsh, lol. I havent been able to get to the store to get the proper tape. Ive been leaving at 5:00 am for work and get home about now 9:00... long days really kill me..the drive is brutal. Any ways thank you very much for asking and put it this way; if I start to feel any better or I learn any thing ill let you know.

Hangin' on
