Problems with the medical community

Post by Wulfman » Wed May 09, 2007 10:27 am

I realize this news article is a little off topic for us apnea sufferers, but it brings to light how corrupt the "medical community" is.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070509/hl_ ... ctors_dc_1

If the drug manufacturers are doing it with drugs, are the manufacturers of the "PAP" machines doing it too (in some way, shape or form)? I realize that most doctors don't dispense the equipment, but some seem to have a preference as to the machines their patients use. (mine wrote "w/C-Flex" on my prescription)
I'm not commenting on the DME profession at this point.

Best wishes,

Den

Unfortunately it's nothing new. I see the drug reps in the docs office every time I'm there handing out their free samples, buying everyone lunch, etc. I saw that with Lexapro when it came out - pens, notepads, mousepads, signing, etc. all over doctors' offices.

Hmmm is that why it was prescribed instead of Prozac? Actually last time I was on antidepressants it was Prozac which at THAT time was the latest and greatest.

And I just spent another $244 on Provigil last night although the doc told me he could prescribe Ritalin instead. Only problem with Ritalin is that I'd have to go pick up a paper prescription - can't be called or faxed in, must be filled w/i 6 days of being written, no refills, etc. BUT Ritalin is the only one out there that has a generic equivalent!

It's like the antibiotics they prescribe my kids - I was stunned when I had to pay over $100 for one. What's wrong with plain ole penicillin or any of the other generics available??? Heck, I can even get those FREE at my local Meijer!!! You KNOW the reps have to be pushing these... I would think that a caring doctor would be watching out for your wallet as well as your health -- heck - I almost had a heart attack when they told me the price of the Provigil! THEN where would they get their profit from?????

Well, it appears to me most sleep doctors could give a rat's rear about what xPAP machine their patients get. If they did there wouldn't be so many patients being given compliance data only xPAPs.

Now ... the DME's and this "scheme" .... THAT makes MUCH more sense!!! Dispense the brand xPAP whose company gives the best "kickback" and then dispense the cheapest model available too and what a tidy, nice profit margin!

Ah, GREED! One of my pet peeves.

Can you imagine what just ONE day without greed worldwide would be like?

...and I mean greed in all forms - cutting in traffic- there are so many of those 'little' ones that really can set someone off, or ruin an afternoon.
Goodness, just think - the callers into those radio talk programs just might even get to finish a sentence!!

I take Omeprazole every day (That's Prilosec OTC for you state side people). There is no generic equivelant for sale here, but I purchased some from India for a fraction of the cost, and it works just as well.

I'm a programmer Jim, not a doctor!

I'm sure the articles would be endless Den. You KNOW the politicans are in their pockets. How else could they afford mansions in other countries?
