Does No Large Leaks = No Mouth Breathing?

Post by Cedric » Mon May 07, 2007 5:28 am

Finally got my card reader and Encore Pro setup and have 3 days of data to look at.

Encore Pro Analyzer shows that the average leaks are pretty much in line with my mask's flow rate and pressure. Large leaks are zero each day.

Does the absence of large leaks indicate that I'm not mouth breathing?

I did my titration sleep study with the Swift and there was nothing said about needing a full face mask.

No. You want your leaks to look essentially like a flat line. Don't freak out if they're not, but this is one of my near-perfect nights.

You also should look up the vent rate for your mask and see how close your line is to that number.

End of rant .
... and we don't even recommend bloodletting for OSA (well excpet maybe when there is heated debate over who makes the best machine).

The majority opinion here seems not to favor surgery of any kind for OSA, though from what I read on Wikipedia, if CPAP doesn't cure your hypertension bloodletting is still an option. . .

I recommend leaches.

Everyone knows I have no clue as to what I'm talking about though.

Would that have been right around Income Tax time? A lot of people feel like that around April 15th.

I've heard that "leach therapy" is experiencing a comeback in the medical profession. (it never went out of style with lawyers and politicians though)

And.......EVERY manufacturer makes the BEST machines......just depends on who you ask......

Den

Blarg: How do you get the hourly graph of leaks?

Post by Cedric » Tue May 08, 2007 5:46 pm

I have Encore Pro 1.8i and EP Analyzer and I don't see the hour by hour graphs of leaks anywhere.

Is this because I only have the M series Pro and not an Auto?
