Snores

Post by Jaggles » Tue May 01, 2007 6:57 am

I am on my 3rd week of therapy and on my 5th night with the optilife mask which I think will be a good mask for me as I tweak tightness, etc.

Last night, my AHI was 3.1, a bit better than I have been doing, my leaks were ok but my "snores" zoomed to over 200 episodes, much higher than my average of about 55-60 before last night. What are snores? I don't think its the traditional concept of snoring since my wife says she has not heard me since I started therapy. And certainly not 200 times. How does the Encore Pro and Encore Pro Analyzer come up with its numbers, i.e. what is the criteria for a "snore?"

Thanks for the great assistance!

Hi Jaggles,
I think there's a vibration sensor in the unit that detects the throat vibrating, which usually leads to a snore, which sometimes leads to an apnea event. You can read more about it on the thread called "Snoredog", from about 3 weeks ago.

I take that you do have the software, it's not listed in your profile. In encore Pro dailies page 4, what is your avg leak rate? Do you tape or seal your lips to prevent mouthleaks?

Mouth leaks could be seen as snores and the treatment pressure getting out will make snores higher as with AHI numbers. Just draging the hose on the bed frame can cause snores to be registered.

I am using Encore Pro and EP Analyzer. My average leak rate last night was less than 30 so that does not seem to be a problem. I do not seal. I do have my hose over the head board but have done that other nights without this kind on numbers. I will keep an eye on it. I might try changing pressure from 11 to12.

thanks.

I have extremely high snores, but low leak rate!? I have been having issues with rainout. Could that cause vibration (i.e. snores)? My hubby says he hasn't heard me snore either.

Terri,
There's a good possibility that your rainout is showing up as snores
