How Long Until You Felt Better?

Post by sybert1ger » Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:52 pm

I've been on CPAP for a little over three months now. My AHI hovers around 1.0. I have an acceptable leak rate. I rarely wake up even to adjust my mask anymore.

Despite all this I am still tired. I'm going to continue to persevere but I was hoping to get an idea of how many people had to wait this long or longer before feeling any significant change.

Any mention of other sleep disturbances on your PSG? Sometimes OSA can mask PLMD and the other way around.... Any chance you could post some Encore reports?

About 8 hours for me ... but you did not have that as a choice (I did not vote). Oh well, us lucky ones always get overlooked

Of course it does not take much to feel better when you feel like you are already dead
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I posted some data in viewtopic.php?t=18936&highlight= a few weeks ago.

I've yet to get a copy of my initial report from my doctor but I had a full night sleep study plus multiple sleep latency test the following day. And then a second full night of titration.

Since my initial prescription I haven't been able to see my sleep doc. Work travel keeps postponing the appointment and he books out over a month in advance. Hopefully when i finally see him again I'll be able to get some more answers.

It depends upon what you mean by better. First there were the issues of ggetting used to the headgear. That took several weeks. Then there were other side issues: sore neck, restless legs, insomnia for other reasons, etc. Meanwhile I guess there was slow but steady improvement while the side issues were going on. Now, as I think back to last summer when I began, I have to admit, I feel really better much better. FINALLY

After the first few days, I did feel a bit better. I noticed I awoke alert, not fuzzy; and I did not feel especially sleepy during the day. But it took several months before I really noticed an overall difference; more alert all day, better memory, better mood, able to stay awake later at night.

The one things that changed immediately was the snoring, of course. That stopped the moment I turned the machine on.

I does seem that for many, the improvement is gradual. But a significant number experience a night and day difference in the first few days. Everyone responds differently.

Yeah, I felt better right away. But I still feel I have some more time to put in. I still feel tired sometimes and feel like my brain's a bit scrambled (more than usual anyway!). I'm going to tackle my PLMD next and hopefully that will speed up the process. Keep forgetting to make that appointment!

I'm new to CPAP and new to the forum, which is an excellent resource.

After five nights on CPAP therapy, I am not noticing a huge difference. Right now I'm dealing with things like dialing in my headgear, fixing the blister on my nose, and generally getting used to the new routine. I'm on CPAP at 14 cm, and my upper chest is actually a bit sore; I'm assuming that's from lung inflation. I have absolutely no idea what my AHI is going to be now (was 70!); I need to ask my DME about how they're tracking that.

Long story short, I hope to experience a dramatic difference soon, but for now I'm still getting used to it all -- and still feeling fairly tired.

Regards,
Doug

I just got my machine yesterday, used it last night for the first time and today I already feel better. Even though I took about 2 hours to adjust to the mask and woke up 2-3 times during the night (kind of freaked out by the whole thing), when I did sleep, I slept VERY well. Today I feel well rested, it's almost like I haven't slept in the past 10 years.

I had to vote 1-2 weeks, but for me it was ONE NIGHT.

I've been on the machine since last September. I go for 6 or 8 days with an AHI of anywhere from 0.2 to 1.0 and then have a weird night like 2.5 or 4.5 and then back down to below 1.0. I have yet to feel any differently as a result of my therapy after 7 months. You didn't have a "longer" choice, so I didn't vote.

[/b] I felt better after the first night on CPAP. It was a couple of weeks before I had a bad night. They were good for awhile then again a bad night. Overall it has been much better from the start. I got an APAP to use also. It didn't make much difference and I seem to do better with it on CPAP.
Stay cool jim

After 7 months+ I am still waiting for any noticeable improvement, except that I don't sweat at night. And still hoping for improvement in cholesterol etc. I sleep through the night, no bad leaks, auto (so not a problem of inadequate pressure). But it would be irresponsible not to use CPAP even if it doesn't make one feel better
