Tube over the head nasal pillow?
Hi everyone,
This is what I'm talking about:
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/purita ... llows.html
I am currently using a swift, however, I like to switch sides when I sleep sometimes and the swift prevents this. I have a reason to believe that this is what causes my leak spikes as they never last a full minute, but are just brief.
Is there a consensus about any of these masks or are they all good performing and simply a matter of opinion?
Thanks!

the swift was definitely an improvement over the nasal masks for me, but the resp. therapist told me it was meant for side sleeping and if you wanted to switch sides all you had to do was "pop the hose off and pop it back on the other side", like anyone wants to fumble around with that in the middle of the night! plus i was always getting leaks from the frame of the nasal pillows hitting my pillow... the CL2 has an over the head hose which i route through a bandana on my headboard and it stays well out of the way, and once i got my hose cover (thanks kathleen, for the comfortsleeve), i didn't have the issue of the hose making noise against my metal headboard...i'm waiting to go back on cpap after surgery, though, and i have the twilight NP to try, which also has the over the head hose...lot of people on the boards love this one, especially tummy sleepers...the breeze gets a lot of positives, too, though, people seem to love it!

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got...
There are several interfaces designed to go over the top.
Do you fasten the short hose of the Swift over the center or up one side?
Do a search on Swift and you'll see pics. of how to make it work.
I am using the Comfort Lite 2 it is over the top.
Lot's of options. Some like the Optimus, but I can't till now get it to seal reliably.

Boy, I don't know... I have to admit I'm a little skeptical about the Bravo for side sleeping. It looks like it's a bit wide and would be pushed by the pillow. I'll be anxious to hear about it when people finally have a chance to try it and report on it, though.
I'm a side sleeper who switches from side to side throughout the night. I'm 80-85% happy with my OptiLife, but I'm seriously considering giving the Twilight NP a try.

Yeah I've got go agree with that. I used to sleep on my stomach ALL the time. I know it's probably not great for my neck, but I'm sure my body tries to go back to that posistion. Let me know what you think of the twilight when you try it sharon.sharon1965 wrote:i forgot about this option...i have to admit, i tried it once and it bugged me and i didn't really give it a chanceDo you fasten the short hose of the Swift over the center or up one side?
I'm very happy my CPAP is working now, I just wish I could return all those other masks for cash on a new one!

I find that SWIFT is the most comfortable of all masks,
I have tried CL2 (hoepeless for me) Activa (OK but I experienced panic attack), Ultra Mirage (OK, but losey)
Swift wekaness for me is its LEAK and noise level
Now my leaks every night is between 40-60 and many nights I have large leaks of 30-60 minuets)
The most comfortable mask but there are many design problem.
(I have followed many threads on Swift in this forum and have implemented the Velcro band solution, nose gel, mouth strip to prevent blowfish etc)

Another Recommendation for a ComfortLite 2
I did a titration study at Stanford last night and the sleep tech there said that side-sleepers like me did not do well with Swifts. I know I didn't.TerryB wrote:I am using the Comfort Lite 2 it is over the top.
He tried the Dr recommended Optilife and then switched me to a Comfort Lite 2 for the rest of the night and said it worked well for me. I don't have the formal results yet but I felt real rested when I woke up this morning.
So right now I am willing to trade an used original Swift, or a barely used Comfort Classic for a Comfort Lite 2.

Re: Tube over the head nasal pillow?
I am hoping that you already figured this out based on the help others have offered, but if not, I would say that there is a consensus on the nasal pillow masks.brackstone wrote:Hi everyone,

The swift is best for back sleepers but can be adapted for side sleeping in one of two ways. You can sleep so that the front of the mask hangs over the pillow with the tube connected on the lower side (the side you are turned toward) or you can attach the tube on the opposite side and have it hang from above using your headboard or something else to support it.
The pillow method works especially well if you fold your pillow in half, or you have a firm-ish pillow. The over the head method doesn't work as well for me, but I have heard others say it is the most versatile.
In either case YOU ALWAYS WANT TO ATTACH THE HOSE TO YOUR HEADGEAR. This greatly reduces the tendency for the hose to pull on the pillows, which causes leaks and discomfort .
If you always sleep on your side, I think the Breeze is a good bet. It seems to be as popular for side sleepers and the Swift is for back sleepers. I like be able to sleep on my back OR my side, so it doesn't work for well for me.
Two other options I have tried are the Optilife and ComforLite 2. I like the Optilife. It is not as comfortable or non-confining as the swift, but it doesn't leak, seems to be pretty durable, and works equally well on back and side.
I don't find the pillows on the CL2 to be as comfortable out of the box, but I really like the other two cushion options that it has - the simple cushion and the direct seal. The simple cushion is like a mini nasal mask and the direct seal is like standard pillows, but with a different shape.

Put me down for the Twilight NP as my favorite, too.
Sharon, are you all set for your first night with Twilight? Good luck!
Has anyone tried the Bravo yet? I like the open space between the eyes. I suppose you could clip the hose to your pajama top to keep from pulling on it during the night?
Edited: Sorry, I just saw the separate topic about the Bravo....
Good luck with your search for "Mask Nirvana", Brackstone!
