I just love it when someone posts something like this then doesn't bother to put any links or where they found the damn information. You might as well post nothing at all.
Where did you hear or find this?
After numerous wild-goose chase searches, I found nothing on Kirkland dog food recalls mfg'd by Diamond Pet foods.
http://www.diamondpet.com/
I could find NOTHING indicating KIRKLAND Signature brand dog food was involved with this recall. Below is the only recall I could find on Diamond's website, and nothing was found at Costco.com's website:
http://www.costco.com
From Diamond Pet foods website:
FYI: Kirkland Signature Premium Lamb & Rice, Chicken & Rice formulas are in 14oz. cans.
You are almost better off just feeding them human food, a case of tuna is less than dog food.

http://www.diamondpet.com/promotions/41/Diamond Pet Food Withdraws Products in Response to American Nutrition Inc. Pet Food Recall
META, MO (April 27, 2007) — Because of the canned pet food recall initiated by American Nutrition Inc., Diamond Pet Foods has announced it is withdrawing a limited number of canned products manufactured by American Nutrition. This action is limited to three specific canned products: Diamond Lamb & Rice Formula for Dogs 13 oz. cans, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Kitten Formula 5.5 oz. cans, and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Puppy Formula 13 oz. cans.
Diamond Pet Foods is taking this voluntary action after learning the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed rice protein concentrate used by American Nutrition contained melamine, a substance not approved for use in food.
No other Diamond brand or Chicken Soup brand canned or dry pet food formulas are affected by the American Nutrition recall.
Diamond Pet Foods has not received any indication of quality or safety issues, including pet illness, with the three withdrawn products. However, because American Nutrition informed the company that these three specific products may include rice protein concentrate, Diamond Pet Foods felt this action was necessary for the protection of its customers and their pets.
It should be noted that the products being withdrawn were not formulated or labeled to contain rice protein concentrate. While the FDA is investigating this, current information indicates this error is a result of a manufacturing deviation by American Nutrition.
“We are voluntarily withdrawing these three canned products as a precautionary measure to protect the safety of pets and the integrity of our products,” says Mike Kampeter, president of Diamond Pet Foods. “While testing has not revealed any safety issues with these products, we felt it necessary to remove them from retailer shelves as soon as we were made aware of the American Nutrition product recall.”
The specific products affected by the recall have “best by” dates as follows:
• Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Kitten Formula 5.5 oz. cans: Aug. 15, 2008 to April 15, 2009
• Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Puppy Formula 13 oz. cans: Aug. 21, 2008 to April 15, 2009
• Diamond Lamb & Rice Formula for Dogs 13 oz. cans: Aug. 21, 2009 to April 15, 2010
Customers with these products should stop feeding them immediately and return them to their retailer for a full refund.
“Our highest priority is the health and well-being of our customers’ pets,” Kampeter said. “We are committed to keeping our customers informed and working with the Food and Drug Administration to thoroughly investigate the situation.”
For Diamond Pet Foods, American Nutrition Inc. manufactures only canned products. Diamond Pet Foods manufactures its Diamond brand and Chicken Soup brand dry pet foods in its three manufacturing plants in the United States.
Based in Meta, MO, family-owned Diamond Pet Foods was founded in 1970. Diamond is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of super-premium dog and cat food and the top choice of professional breeders, sporting and working dog owners and family pet owners.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
I'm so sorry that your dog is ill, my heart goes out to you. I would be heartbroken to loose my dogs for any reason, but to loose them because of what I feed them would be devistatating and I'd be very angry. I have raised, trained and shown dogs for years, I have always been particular in what I feed. The same went for my horses. (I should be as aggressive in knowing what I eat )
I would hope everyone who has pets would research the net to learn about products from the "smaller" guys who are dedicated to pet health care, who don't have national name recognition and a gazillion dollar advertising budget. Their concern is for pets.
Here is a link (sorry for having to copy and paste) to the food I'm using, there is a lot of information there, including a link to the FDA recall list. No way am I advertising this food, I only would hope pet owners research and make healthy choices for their pets.

There's no integrity or honesty to say the least in this world today, it hard to stay positive. It's all about money, but I believe in karma and you reap what you sow. Unlike this forum, its good to know there are still some decent people in this world like there are here. Even doctors all they want to do is write prescriptions and drive off in there bmw's. Will it ever change!!
Thanks for listening, now I am off to see my two hundred an hour theripest.

Pat,
Sorry to hear about Jinx. From what I've been hearing, the numbers of affected pets is running in the 10's of thousands.
Kind of makes me glad we don't have any at this time. I got to the point where I just couldn't bear to bury any more of them.....they're such a part of the family and they (usually) give you such unconditional love.
Best wishes,
Den

Pat,
I hope your memories of Jinx helps a little in grieving for your loss. I am so sorry you have to go through this.
Den,
I know what you mean...everytime I loose a beloved dog I swear I will not get another, I simply can't go through the heartache of loosing them again. But after a while I realize I can't NOT have a dog in my life, I'd miss out on so much.

My god snoredog, how mean and uncompassionate you can be sometimes.. You must not have any pets that you treat as family.
Pat.. You have my sympathy for your loss, I know the feeling and its one of the most horrible things.
For everyone else here's the fda site thats keeping updated lists

Actually, HE was the one that made the original post (on the forum) about the pet food problems when it first hit the news.
I've got a feeling that his dog is "in charge" at HIS house.....
Maybe "Snoredog" ain't the "BIG DOG" there?
Am I right, SD?

Sorry, your first message was like the sky was falling but you didn't tell us when.kavanaugh1950 wrote:snoredog, I'm sorry I found it on the http://www.petconnection website. also my sister works at costco and told me. Thanks, very sorry to hear about Jinx passing, I feed my dogs that food (item #38436) and have for some time. I've gone to Costco's website and search, nothing, gone to Diamond's website, search nothing, I couldn't find anything!
But with your link above, I was able to confirm my dog had been eating the possibly tainted food.
What really irks me Costco knew of this recall now for over a week now, pulled product from shelves and still have NOT bothered to inform the public or membership of this problem, they let us continue to feed our dogs this tainted dog food.
COSTCO knows exactly WHO has purchased this dog food, they have your membership number and the item number right on the sales receipt.
Now this is a RESPONSIBLE company:
I had sent them an email last night after reading your post, as I knew they manufactured some dog food for Costco (but only the dry):
Update:Sent: Friday, April 27, 2007 9:35 AM
Subject: RE: * Diamond Pet Foods Info Request: Product Concern
We do not manufacture the canned product for Costco. We make only the
dry Kirkland products.
I do have some information about the canned Kirkland:
American Nutrition also manufactures Kirkland Signature canned products.
As a result, Kirkland Signature is withdrawing the Kirkland Signature
Lamb and Rice canned dog food. Since we do not manufacture the canned
product for Kirkland, you can call 800-257-4530 for more information.
Hope this helps to clarify. Let me know if there is anything else that
I can do for you.

I called American Nutrition at the above 800 number, they confirmed the Kirkland Signature Premium canned dog food was recalled.
Still NO notice or announcement yet from Costco. I have an appointment this afternoon with my vet to get his annual booster shots and ask about some blood work. He threw up about a month ago and was lethargic but was fine later that day. I had given him quite a few of those Nature' Receipe training treats from a training exercise so I thought his sickness was from that. But I'm out of those now and he prefers cashews as treats anyway (he loves em).

Pet Food Recall
Snoredog's search results seem odd. I googled "diamond pet food recall" and got a hit at the very top of the first page. Must have been a recent addition to the search list.
Another tragedy to these pet deaths is that the liability for killing someone's pet is infinitely smaller than the value of the dog to the person who lost it.
Dogs arent humans, but they are "persons". They have a degree of intelligence and self awareness that earns them personhood in my book. I have had two dogs that were very intelligent. You could talk to them in a normal conversational manner and they would pick out and respond to the key words and phrases in your sentences that they understood. They would respond to some human names and names of some other dogs they knew with obvious recognition. This is understanding at a level of abstraction beyond what most people will concede to animals.
