Hi,
Well I have been starting to feel alot more clear in my mind during the day and feeling more energy and creative, have been on cpap for about 8 weeks.
But usually go to bed around 12 am and have such a hard time falling asleep, i try but normally dont fall asleep until 2 of 3. Most all of the time when I wake up it can be around 9;30am, sometimes an hour later and when I do wake up I feel like I could keep sleeping, but then once I get up I feel better, its weird.
I also amost 5 out of 7 nights when I do wake up my mask is on which is wonderful because in the past weeks at the beginning I would wake up and my mask would be on the floor and then i would have a hard time falling back to sleep.
I am just wondering if anyone would have any idea why I sleep so late and why it is so so hard to get up in the morning.
thank you all so much in advance

Hi Laurie,
I am glad it is going better for you.
You are asking why are you sleeping so late. Well if you take the hours you actually sleep from 2-3 am until 9:30 is not enough for you.
At the beginning I found that for me the CPAP machine was like a drug I was craving it and the need to sleep.
Some people mention REM rebound. I am not sure if that is the need to catch up on sleep.
What happens if you go to bed earlier then 12 when would you fall asleep?
Do you sleep through the night?
Have you told your Dr that it takes you 2-3 hours to fall asleep.
Did you always have a hard time falling asleep or since CPAP?
Are you trying different techniques to fall asleep earlier?
I am glad it is going better for you.

I can do this, I will do this.

Did you have trouble falling asleep prior to CPAP?
I'm asking because I have insomnia. I'm never sleepy at normal bedtime. Even if I'm kind of sleepy, by the time I go through the bedtime routine I'm wide awake. Apparently, normal people get tired at a regular bedtime, but I just don't.
I'm being treated for this and I can tell you a couple of things I've been told.
First, my doc is thinking about having me do sleep restriction in order to force my body into a normal sleep routine. This means we pick a time for me to get up each day and regardless of how much I did or did not sleep the previous night, I have to get up at that time. AND I can't take naps during the day. I don't know yet if I'll have to do this, but if I do I know it's going to be really hard to stay awake.
I also have to follow proper sleep hygiene rules. If you don't know what those are, there's a book I read called "No More Sleepless Nights". I don't know if you actually need the book because I don't know if your issue is true insomnia or just having trouble falling asleep with the CPAP. If it's true insomnia, the book might be helpful, but you can also find basic sleep hygiene info on the internet. The basic rules are:
1. Only use the bedroom for 2 things - sleep and "relations"
2. Go to bed only when you're sleepy
3. If you're not asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed
4. Get up at the same time every day - even weekends and regardless of how much you slept the previous night.
5. Do not nap.
6. Go to bed at the same time each night (yes, I know this contradicts #2 - I think this is the ultimate goal).
Those are the basics, but research will show you there are more things like not doing anything too engaging before bed, not watching your clock at all at night (I still haven't reconciled this with the get up after 20 minutes rule), etc.
If you do have insomnia, feel free to ask other questions. I feel like an expert at this point.
