Noisy Remstar M-Series - It whistles!

Post by Skodobah » Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:46 am

I love to complain... but when you have a cpap stuck to your face every night, you have every right! I just switched from a Resmed S8 to a Remstar M-Series (no C-flex) and cannot use it... it seems that about 10 minutes into being on in ramp mode the darn thing whistles... and gets louder when I exhale. What gives? Is this how the Remstar is, or does it sound like I have a defective machine? Could it be the humidifier (heated)? The thought of contacting Apria (uck) about this makes me sick, so I thought I'd ask everyone here. Thank you!

-Julie (sko)

P.S. - I also noticed that the Remstar blows pressure a lot heavier than my Resmed, despite being set at the same pressure. Why is that?

I have the same machine and can hardly hear it. in fact I do not hear it. However, are you sure it is the machine? Reason is when I went to the sleep lab to get the titration study done he gave me an Ultra Mirage full face mask.. fired it up and the exhaust holes whistled like mad. no way could I sleep with that whistle. I asked them to come in he heard the noise also said just a sec came back with a new valve put it in the mask and zero noise.. dunno if that could be the noise you hear but I sure did and was an easy fix

Are the filters installed in it?

Other than that, I'd haul it back to the DME (or tell them to come and pick it up) and tell them you want a better machine.....like an M Series Pro.

Does the M series Pro have that C-flex thing? I am interested in that... as the Remstar M simply does not let me exhale at 13. I do use the Swift nasal pillow mask, which doesn't work very well at a high pressure... in any case, I am going to Apria on Tuesday and will continue to use my Resmed S8 until then.

I will also check the filters and fiddle with the machine sometime today... easier to do than at bedtime!

YES, it does! And, it will record the nightly data that tells you how your therapy is doing.

Best wishes,
