Any silicone free mask???

Post by dave5008 » Tue Apr 24, 2007 9:37 pm

Hi,

Are there any silicone free mask out there? I was on a cpap Resmed S7 lightweight a few years ago and ended up selling it on ebay because my home health provider said they couldn't help me with a mask that didn't have silicone in it. Well I am back at it again looking. Trying to find the perfect mask. I recently ordered another machine out of pocket. Any suggestions for a mask??? I am allergic to silicone and latex. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

David

Any silicone free mask???

Dave,

I remember about a little over 2 years ago when I started using a cpap machine that the DME showed us what she called a "basic mask" that they kept on hand for people who had allergies to certain materials. Why don't you call cpapman and inquire.

I expect to be in touch with that DME in about 2 weeks and will ask again.

only company I know of that would have non-silicone mask is maybe Hans Rudolph company.

You might do a google search for their website.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Sorry to state this but the Hans Rudolph is made entirely of silicone rubber. Perhaps the Mojo gel is not encased in silicone.

The respironics profilelite uses a urethane skin for its gel cover.
There are also vinal nasal masks sold to hospitals
a third option is to take a silicon mask and deep Clean it with a mild detergent soak hot water for at least 8 + hours and rinse several times / soak in hot tap water for 8 + hours. that MAY help. God BLess

Thedean is correct.

I called Respironics this morning. They said that Profile lite is their only mask without silicone. They also said none of their masks contain latex.

Why don't you call the other companies such as Fisher & Paychel, Resmed, etc. and ask about their masks.

Good luck.

What was that made you zero in on silicone as the problem? There are a lot of other materials used in our masks that are much more likely to cause reactions then silicone, especially medical grade silicone. Another issue can be production residue left on various parts, including the cushion. I know I have to completely clean any new masks, hoses, humidifier containers, etc and soak them in a dilute vinegar/water solution before using them personally due to severe allergies.

There are a couple silicone free masks, sleep weavers which is a fabric mask but leaks. The other is no longer being made anymore so stock up its called respironics profile lite.

OP probably thinks he/she has a silicone allergy. Statistically speaking, this is probably not the case, seeing how there are very few bona-fide documented cases and they usually are related to silicone gels in breast implants. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist for an investigation / diagnosis. At least then you could potentially see treatment for the symptoms you are experiencing. Threads like this pop up every once and a while where people think they are allergic to silicone but in reality it's probably non-allergenic contact dermatitis. Doesn't really negate the fact that they are having some sort of reaction though, but does change the solution away from ruling out nearly every mask on the market ever.

This is true, but not entirely. Hans Rudolph does in fact make a non-silicone mask. It's called the 6600 V2, and it's the same thing as the 7600 V2 that you're familiar with but it's the disposable single-patient use version and the cushion is made out of TPE instead of silicone. They are not typically stocked by traditional CPAP DME's, but you might be able to locate a supplier if you google. Mostly they are bought by hospitals though.

Hi,

You accidentally responded to an old topic so if this is still of interest to you, you might want to start a new thread. Or you can let it drop. Your choice.
