a summer mask

Post by emiliog72 » Thu Apr 05, 2007 7:44 am

hello there all I am a fairly new with cpap going on my 4th month. I am pretty happy with the mask provided by my DME (comfort select) however I am thinking ahead to the upcoming summer months and living in Houston TX (unbelieavably humid in the summer) wanted something that didnt cover my face. I purchased the nasal airII but that thing is so freakin noisy is there anything I can do about that or is there another nasal pillow mask anyone can recommend?

breeze nasal mask

Post by whatrdreamsmadeof » Thu Apr 05, 2007 7:49 am

I've been on cpap about 1 year seeing great results now, love the breeze nasal interface. No rubber, headgear to make you hot. However I am a stomach sleeper and roll alot from side to side.
Good Luck masks are a very personal preference, Ellen

It's about the moments that take your breath away.

emiliog72, I can relate to what your looking for. I live in the Hill Country but use to live in Houston and the humidity is a killer. I also have been worrying about how summer is going to affect me and my mask. I already have issues sometimes with HOT FLASHES.

hey diesalgal I've spent 5 yrs outthere in the hillcountry (Austin) while going to school i sure miss that area of TX. I guess you know exactly what I am talking about. I really am concerned about the summer. I want to stay compliant so I need to find something for the summer. I think a nasal pillow mask will probably be the best bet however I've already spent money on the nasal aire II and its incredibly noisy. Just needing some suggestions from others

I had heard that the nasalaire was very noisy and I am glad I haven't tried it. I have tried a few others that might help you choose. I tried the Optilife which is pretty good for those of us that back and side sleep but the hose always has to go down your chest and the nose piece kind of sits on the upper lip and that can get sweaty. However it is very light and many people love it. It was ok, but not what I wanted to settle for. My first mask and one that I go to off and on is the Tiara Snapp-X, it covers just under the nose like a big moustache and the rubber is very soft. You can wear the hose either down along the chest or up over the head. It seals better over the head. Not the top of the line mask but it also doesn't cover the eyes and face and I can sleep almost any position. HOWEVER, in Houston that rubber is probably going to get hot. It is also not as quiet as the Optilife or the Comfortlite 2
I now have the comfortlite 2 and love some things about it but can't get the seal I want. I have not tried the direct seal that is available for it though and I am hoping if I can get that, it will fix my leak issues.
Oddly enough the mask I end up with when everything else is driving me nuts is the Fisher & Paykel 406/407. It covers the nose but I can almost just plop in on my face and get a seal. I don't hate anything about it except the hose on the chest. Since I turn over a lot at night that gets to be a problem.
Hope these observances help you in some way. The main thing I have come to realize is that everyone is different because some people hate the masks I like and love the masks I find problems with. All faces are different and what drives me nuts might be of no concern to you. If you find something that works good in hot weather please let me know ok?
