still snoring

Post by bluegrassmandolin » Mon Apr 02, 2007 1:19 pm

I thought that if I wore the mask all night I wouldn't be able to snore. Was I told wrong or am I really using this thing completely wrong? I'm still just as tired as I was a month ago when I started using it so it wouldn't surprise me if I'm the problem. Thanks for any help you all can pass along!

Snoring doesn't equal apnea- lots of people snore who don't have apnea, and there people with apnea who don't snore. Some people report worse palatal snoring with xPAP or like me, I snore a little if I get congested. Breathing is what's important, not snoring...even though your bed pattern might think otherwise

Have you noticed any improvements or changes in the month you've been on CPAP? Some people are lucky and have major improvement right away, others take a little longer, but most people have ups and downs their xPAP therapy. Sometimes it not the energy that returns first, but your mood might be improved or you might be thinking clearer. If all else fails, you may need to follow up with your doctor sooner then anticipated.

It is possible to still snore with XPAP treatment, To really see what's going on you need a machine that captures data, and the software to use the data, your machine doesn't have that capability.

Increasing the pressure might help, but again without data it's a shot in the dark. Also excessive leaks can cause it to be worse. You use a FF Mask so if your leaks are under control, that should help. Jim

I haven't noticed any improvements yet. I'm still about as tired as I've always been. I've always been fairly clear headed so that hasn't changed either. My mask leaks a few times every night and I have to try and get readjusted so I don't really get any uninterrupted nights of sleep. My provider was pretty annoyed when I asked if my machine captured any info and she basically just told me that I couldn't read it anyway if it did. I felt pretty good after my sleep study so I've been kind of waiting for that feeling to return and it hasn't. Is that because they were testing all kinds of pressures?

Hi,

I know this is probably silly I just wanted to make sure that you were using the Full Face Mask you had listed in your profile. If you are using a Pillow or Just a Nose Mask it could lead to a different problems than if you are using a full face mask.

Yes, I'm using the full face mask but I'm switching from the medium and the small. I guess I'm just right in the middle, lucky me huh?

Masks can make a difference too, I've used the F & P 431 "M", the ComfortFull "M" gave me better treatment, I don't know why, probably had to do with leak rate. Jim

I wouldn't have found out it wasn't working without using the data, I would have just suffered, Lucky I staered on the ComfortFull and could tell the difference I felt, it took a week of the F & P to make me tired. Jim

I'll have to see if I can try another mask then. Are there other types of full face masks that anyone would suggest me trying?

Blue, you can always fight with your DME to upgrade to a better machine -- or you can purchase a new one out-of-pocket if you can spare the money.

You will always want a machine to monitor your therapy. Better to get one now when you truly need it.

In the meantime, have you tried your cflex settings? Cflex can play a big role in how you feel.

And, you don't have a humidifier listed. Can I assume you are using one?

Yes, I have the humidifier but I didn't know which one it was when I signed up here. How do I use the CFLEX settings? I don't have any problems with the pressure (I think) and I can exhale okay. What else can I play with to possibly help out?

If you have the Remstar Plus with cflex machine (not the M Series), then you have the Remstar Heated Humidifier. See here:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... ifier.html

If you have the M Series Plus with cflex machine, then you have the wrong machine in your profile.

Assuming you do have the Remstar Plus, read here for the instructions to change pressure and cflex:

Since we can't have you running around "still tired", first play around with the cflex settings to see if that helps.

If not, then very carefully (since you don't have software), you can bump up your pressure by 1. I read an earlier post that you said you thought your pressure would be 8. Double check your machine to make sure it's on 8. If so, and if cflex revision didn't help, then you can bump up to 9. Give 9 a week to see if that helps at all.

Or, if you aren't comfortable about moving the pressure to 9, then start bugging (big time bugging) your DME about not feeling any better. Maybe they will put you on an Auto for a couple of weeks or more for home-titrations. The Auto is software friendly and the card can be read to help determine what is going on with you. (Assuming of course that your DME has the software to read the Auto).

Some of the other full face masks that people like are UMFF (I think that stands for Ultra Mirage full face by Resmed), the Hybrid, and Jim's favorite the ComfortGel. I think the UMFF is probably the most popular.

The ComfortGel is a nasal mask, you would need to tape with probably. Goto CPAP.COM, and look up whats out there.

Well Jim, I thought you used a full face mask, and the ComfortGel is listed in your profile.
