Remstar Plus M Series Basic Questions

Post by PhotoDude » Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:13 pm

I apologize if these questions have been answered elsewhere in the forum, but I can't seem to find the answers. I'm new to the "hosehead" world, having started about two weeks ago.

First, is the "average hours per night" readout on the display of the machine accurate? It seems to jump from less than 4 hours to more than 7 hours, even though I've been at a constant 7-8 hours use every night.

Second, I've been using the "ramp up" feature, starting at about 8 and ending at 15 over a 20 minute period. Most nights I'm still awake at 20 minutes and therefore pretty much have gotten used to what 15 feels like. Toward morning, the pressure sure feels closer to 8 than 15. Is there something that causes the machine to "ramp down?"

Third, a couple times I have been strapping on the mask getting ready to go to bed and the machine starts on its own. Is this a feature or is this a defect?

Last (I have more but I'll stop here), with this particular machine what type of information would I get if I purchased the card reader and software?

Thanks in advance for helping a newbie...

I can't answer many of your questions, but a couple I can.

Your Plus machine will not record the added data for the software to read. Therefore, getting the reader and software will not benefit you -- unless you go back to your DME and ask for a better machine.

Since you already have purchased the M series humidifier, you would want to change out your machine to an M Series Pro -- but an M Series Auto would be even better.

Some DMEs can be real a**holes about switching you out to a better machine. The insurance code is exactly the same for the Plus vs the Auto, and the insurance reimbursement is exactly the same amount of money. Therefore, the DME makes alot more profit if he gives you the super cheap Plus. Get it?

The reason it feels like 8 in the morning is because you are more used to the pressure. You can look at the machine and it will tell you if it's at 15 or not.

The machine has a function of "auto on". It will automatically turn on the machine when you start breathing through your mask.

If you didn't know it the day for a XPAP is from 12 noon to 12 noon next day. I assume they set the internal clock for you to reflect your time zone and DST. I had to reset mine as it was still reading GMT times. Happy Breathing Jim
