Encore Software & Reader / Insurance / DME

Post by omnisleep » Sun Mar 25, 2007 6:48 pm

My DME told me that they are unable to purchase the Encore Software & Reader from Respironics due to regulations.

My Doctor was open to me getting it, but I was told by the DME that they could lose their license if they sold it to an individual. Mainly because it allows you to adjust the pressure thru the software. I told the lady that I already know how to change the pressure on the machine without software, but that didn't change her mind.

I've noticed several people on this forum that uses the Encore software and I was curious if anyone else has heard of this. I also notice that CPAP.com sells the cpap machines bundled with the software. Are there different regulations on this state to state?

The regulations are the same from state to state, the lies vary from DME to DME! You know where to buy it, if you want it get it. Jim

It is not Illegal to own the software or sell it or use it. As it's not illegal to change the pressure. And if it was who cares, in the U.S.A. everything good is illegal or soon will be.

I have heard of one person who got their insurance to pay for the reader and software. I think everyone else purchased their own on line. I got mine from cpap.com. It was quick, easy, and the best investment I've made in my therapy! Of course the Padacheeks, Aussie heated hose, Papillow, and now the Pur-sleep were also excellent investments for me.
