$400 Alarm Clock - what do you think?

They should take it one step further and record the sleep stages throughout the night. I would love to be able to study what is going on in my sleep in order to improve my therapy.

What do you think?????

My luck would be that I'd get a defective one and it'd wake me from a light sleep at two in the morning and I'd hop out of bed, refreshed and happy, then get into the kitchen and find out what time it was and then I'd be really, really grumpy Concept sounds good though.

that looks very interesting. I've been looking to get one of those alarm clocks that use light to wake you up instead of sound. My apartment has horrible windows that are very tiny and don't let hardly any natural light through... it's like a dungeon. But I'll be moving in about a month or so, so maybe I'll have better windows in my new place.

When I heard about the rythms of sleep long ago, 70's I think), I described to a buddy how the world's best alarm should work. Looks like it is about to happen.

Looks pretty good - but I don't find that it's actually being made yet, and the article was from 2005.

Well, I don't think I've remembered 10 dreams in my entire life, and if most of our dreams are in REM then I guess its a pretty safe bet I've not woke up from REM cycle.

And I have NEVER been a chipper, smiley, morning person. Matter of fact, I'd slither out of bed to the bathroom, then slither down the stairs to the frige, pop a top on a can of Coke Classic, slither up on the snack bar stool and light a cigarette. Now, DON'T turn the lights on, DON'T talk to me, DON'T EVEN breathe the same air I do for at least the next 15-20 minutes. So, if these guys are right - we sure know what sleep cycle I woke up from most all my life!!!!

Did you follow the link to another alarm clock they've developed called "Clocky"??
Snooze Button Addicts Defeated By Runaway Clock

If you have an unhealthy addiction to the snooze button on your alarm clock, you may appreciate the latest invention from MIT's Media Lab. Clocky is an alarm with an ingenious method for rousing even the most dedicated morning dozer. After you hit the snooze button, the contraption rolls off the bedside table and zooms away on a set of wheels to some other part of the room, finding a new hiding place every day. When the alarm sounds again, simply finding Clocky ought to be strenuous enough to prevent even the doziest owner from going back to sleep.

I have seen that one. Problem is threefold: I own shotguns and my wife hates loud noises in the house and cherishes our hardwood floors.

I can honestly say that I do not need an alarm clock! I have twin 3 year old daughters who do the job very nicely at 5am every day!!! They have not missed yet. Actually, it is the best wake up alarm I can think of!
