I have some questions regarding these readings.
Previously while wearing the Optilife mask I got the following readings on my ResMed Elite
Pressure = 7.4
Leak = 0.2
AHI = 1.6
AI = 0.1
HI = 1.5
Last night wearing a Tiara Snapp-X (which is very comfortable) I got these readings
Pressure = 7.6
Leak = 0.4
AHI = 4.8
AI = 0.2
HI = 4.6
These readings seem very different and I am wondering is it strictly the mask causing the difference
and if so does that mean that one mask is definitely better for me than the other?
2 Different Masks 2 Different Readings - I Have Questions!
I am no expert on the subject but I can tell you that my AHI numbers can easily vary by 3 points or more from night to night so maybe the different mask have nothing to do with it. That being said I have heard of people saying certain mask give them better numbers than other masks. I would give it a few more nights of comparison and see if the trend continues.

dieselgal,
You have taken a possible posting right out of my mouth, or fingers on the keyboard!While using a Comfortlite2 with nasal pillows & mouth tape, had these numbers:
AHI: 0.6
OAI: 0.2
HI:0.5
Average Leak: 34LPM
I recently started using a Hybrid, to get away from taping. Best nights numbers:
AHI: 5.5
OAI: 0.7
HI: 4.8
Average Leak: 57LPM
Keep in mind that the vent rate for these masks at my top pressure on auto bipap of 12cm is about the same as the differences shown here.
I felt about the same on wakeup with both, so to me its a wash. I guess the higher HI indicates that I am opening my mouth quite a bit, when under the Hybrid, and not taped. Since this "best" night on the Hybrid, I have had several with much worse leak rates, one with a large leak of almost 4 hours! Guess I really rolled over on the sucker and knocked it for a loop, but don't remember doing it or fixing it.
So I guess it all boils down to how you feel.
Thanks for the post.

Heck, those stats aren't bad at all w/either mask, dieselgal.
The proof of the pudding is how you feel.
And I would say its not a fair comparison until give each mask a full week's trial. Plus, to heck w/the stats, unless they are real bad, go w/the mask that's most comfortable after a two week trial of each.
I've found that maks and pillows that were comfortable the first few nights, if they were gonna give me any problems didn't start giving me problems until after 7-10 nights continuous on them.

Ok, this is the kind of info I am after. I am trying to decide which mask to keep and I wanted some feedback.Slinky wrote:Heck, those stats aren't bad at all w/either mask, dieselgal.

Thanks so much!
With ResMed, you have to set the machine to each mask. Remstars are smart, you don't have to tell them, You do the mask math yourself.
Each mask has a set washout leak that's different. Also each nite your sleep is different. You have to make sense of numbers, by doing the same thing over a few days, and using AVG's. Anything else means nothing. Jim
