Hi, I was hoping you guys could help, I have been on CPAP since January this year. So far I have tried the Ultra Mirage nasal mask, had problems with mouth breathing, so they gave me a Flexifit 431 full face mask, that leaked like crazy and marked my face, huge black eyes! I now have a respironics simplicity nasal mask, and agaiin problems with mouth breathing. The chin strap is very uncomfortable, and doesn't keep my mouth closed, (I have small features, prominent teeth and a receding jaw) I tried taping, and pressing my lips inwards to tape hurts my jaw. I am getting really depressed with this now. Tried measuring myself on CPAP.Com, and the clinic took no notice of the printed info I gave them. I am in the U.K. by the way.
I'd be really grateful for some help please
Gill

I'm certain that many of the folks on this forum can empathize with you, Gill. Finding the "right" mask seems to be an unending quest.gill wrote:Hi, I was hoping you guys could help, I have been on CPAP since January this year. Personally, I tried the H&P 432, similar in design to your 431, but it was simply unacceptable. This is solely my opinion, but I think that while it may work well for those with a "standard" jaw, those of us who have a jaw structure that is even a little bit out of the ordinary won't have much success with it. Mine leaked like an old rowboat as soon as I dropped off to sleep and my jaw relaxed.
I've had good success with the Respironics Comfort Curve and their Comfort Classic, as long as I tape my mouth every night. I'm presently using their full-face ComfortFull model, which is my original mask. My sleep stats aren't as good with it as with the nasal masks, but at least I don't have to tape my mouth and I am able to control leaks most of the time.
My DME has just ordered the Hybrid mask for me and I'm hopeful that it will work even better, but my experience during the past year has taught me not to be too optimistic about anything regarding CPAP.

Don't give up!
There are other masks to try like the Ultra Mirage Full Face and the Hybrid ... there is also a Comfort Full and at least three or four others.
Then there is always fiddling with the straps. Generally the FF masks require more attention to the strap adjustments since there is more variability between the facial surface and the mask seal to contend with than nasal cushions or nasal pillow interfaces.
As OC stated, the mask is often the most difficult part of getting effective treatment.
Best of luck and hang in there.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
For many, the ultra mirage full face mask seals well because of the double seal design. Three of the six people in my family are using it as a primary mask. Most also have an alternate for when you just have to have a change for whatever reason.

I use the ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask also and I love it. I agree that getting the straps "right" is a bit of a struggle but once you get by that, it is a easy mask to wear each night.
BTW, I spoke to you in the Chat Room this morning! I am glad you decided to pick the brains of your fellow forum members to find a solution to your problem.
