First nit on full face mask

Post by bethlori » Sat Mar 03, 2007 9:04 am

Just switched to the Ultra Mirage FF and although I woke rather later this morning (9:30am) I liked this mask VERY much. I awoke several times through the night with my mouth open so I now know that while the nasal mask was on I was mouth breathing. I also felt like I could breath much easier. Now all that has to happen is for my energy and memory to return

Congrats on the UMFF! That's an awesome mask.
I always felt my very best when using it.
Good luck and continued success.

I've gone full-circle with my masks. I've used various nasal masks with varying degrees of success. I've tried several nasal pillow masks with zero success.

A couple of weeks ago I thought, what the heck, I'll try my UMFF. I've been hooked ever since! Properly adjusted, I don't know if there's a more comfortable mask. I'm not even a mouth-breather.

Wake me up when this is over...

Does the Ultra Mirage have the active cell like the Mirage Activa? I really like this feature. In the Activa I get almost 100% no leaks. I have not used a FF mask before and looking to try one.

The most active thing I do is jump to conclusions.

Congratulations, bethlori!

The UMFF was my first mask....picked it out myself....and it's the only one I'll use.

Sleepless,

No, it doesn't have the same components as the Activa. In fact, there were some threads a couple of years ago about hoping ResMad would make a full face version of the Activa. Hasn't happened, yet.

The doctor ordered the Ultra Mirage FF for me and at first I hated it. I got an abscess from the strap rubbing and tried the Swift Nasal Pillows until the abscess healed. I REALLY hated that thing so asked for the UM FF back.
Now, after a month on therapy, I can honestly say I actually like the FF mask.

On the rare occasions I nap during the day, I use my CPAP. I tried sleeping w/o it and the snoring kept waking me up... . Now I know why I had trouble sleeping before starting treatment!!

FF masks in general are great. I use an F&P HC431 and love it. Eliminates the "mouth breathing" issues, and there's only one (big) seal, so simple and less things to go wrong (nasal pillows have two seals, the Hybrid has three, etc.) Plus it's great to be able to just open your mouth and take nice huge breaths whenever you want.

I can personally recommend the 431. My pal likes the 432. I never tried the UMFF, has anyone used both the UMFF and the 431? I'd love to hear a comparison.

Guest, I've used both, but I had horrible experiences with the 431, so my answer is probably not what you're looking for. I found the double seal of the UMFF to be MUCH more effective in stopping leaks, and the design of the headgear and the mask in general to be much more comfortable than the 431. Of course, we all have different experiences since our faces are shaped differently, but the 431 actually rubbed my chin so raw it bled. Every time I see that mask mentioned I shudder.

I love all the mask talk here, but the truth of the matter is no matter how much people talk about it, you just can't ever know if a mask is going to work for YOU until you try it

I just wish that the UMFF would not bruise my forehead so much.

I have used both and I can say I like both. Here's what I see as the plusses of each:

UMFF
Great forehead pads and adjustability
Less tension needed on headgear
Great clips on headgear

431
Love the under-chin design
Stays-put even with a lot of movement

I am not a fan of the so-called "quick-release" clip on the 431. The idea seems good, but I find it to be too small and the pull string is not always reliable; not a big deal, though. I use my 431 more than any other mask I own, but I like the UMFF almost as much. If I could get a 431 with the UMFF's forhead interface I would be in hog heaven!

Just get yourself a soft headband.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I did and still bruised. Not sure what my problem is. I do know that the dip between my nose and eyebrow ridge is a little deep and I have bruised there as well. I have even tried all the positions of the pad. I have also removed the pad thing and still bruise. It really gets frustrating trying to find the right mask.

Assuming you have the right size......loosen up the top straps and put the forehead piece in the full upright position.

The only way that bruising could happen then is if you were sleeping face down on your pillow.
