Peter, My dme told me the reason the bridge of the nose becomes sore is not the rubbing as much as it is the applied pressure on an area that hasn't much flesh there at the bridge, so what is happening is we are cutting off circulation to that small area of the nose, I also wondered how could gel masks do that, asked him that question, gave me above answer, so now I use 2 layers of Nexcare tape, no blister, and redness is diminishing, working for me.

Thanks Ed. I'll give that a try. Hope it works as the Simple Cushion seems to work the best for me. I hope the tape doesn't compromise the seal because it was so good before. The problem is definitely on the boney area of my nose.....just before it turns into cartilage....I guess. It is very thin skin there.

Thanks

Peter

Yep, same thing that happens to people who are ill, in bed a lot without being able to move much, and get bedsores. Circulation cutoff = tissue death, unless the pressure is relieved and circulation restored. Please, don't let the irritation proceed beyond the redness/sore stage. Healing of sores that go beyond that point is extraordinarily difficult.

Peter, forgot to mention the Nexcare tape is applied to the nose not the mask, just as to not confuse others who are having these problems.

Well, I would NOT tolerate even the mildest of leaks if I could feel it in the slightest in my eyes. And THAT is the problem w/the doggone bridge of the nose bruising. (Thank goodness, I"ve not encountered sores). That is THE reason I gave up regular use of my HC 407 Flex Fit. It was either leaking into the eyes or a bruised nose bridge after more than just a few days. I never was able to find a happy medium with/it.

I'm back to using it the last 2 nights due to a somewhat tender scalp and some hairloss under the CL2 headgear where the swivel joint is. *sigh* I so love my CL2 nasal cushion. But I'm reluctant to "de-capitate" it just yet.

I'm thinking of trying the Twilight Aura when I'm due for a six month mask purchase. I "might" get braver about de-capitating it than my beloved CL2.

I have had trouble with a very red bridge, that took about 4 hours to disappear (and even then left a faint red mark that could be seen by the "trained" eye.)

Someone suggested using neosporin - that worked a bit, for a while.

Then I tried the NexCare tape - Didn't stop the red as much as I hoped, but did make some difference. Getting it off in the morning was a labor of love! - took forever to be slow and gentle.

I have been Johnson 'n Johnson's waterproof tape to tape my mouth (not very successfully) and decided to give it a try - works great - much easier to pull off in the morning and I think its thickness helps a LOT. No red nose.
