Life Insurance Update, could be helpful to others

Post by sbr3500 » Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:12 pm

I have been meaning to post an update for others who may be searching for good rates.

I am 32 years old and have moderate OSA. Otherwise, healthy and NOT overwieght. I had a 30 year term policy BEFORE I was diagnosed with OSA and since then i had my 2nd child and was looking for more coverage.

I was straighforward with my insurance broker about the OSA, I see no need to not be honest ... what if something happenned to me and my family didn't get the money???

Anyway, my broker suggestted doing "pre-underwriting" disclosing the OSA before we actually applied with anyone (essentially shopped for RATES disclosing the OSA right away). Prudential Life came back an offerred me a "Preferred" rate ... not "preferred Plus" which is the best ... but, some carriers wouldn't touch OSA or would only give me a standard non-smoker policy. All they asked was for written confirmation from my sleep doctor and my records stating i was CPAP compliant.

My policy was not small ($4 million ... 1/2 in 10 year term and the other 1/2 in 20 year term). By getting a "preferred" rate instead of "standard" cut the cost of my policy by 50% ... saving me more than $2,000 per year.

I hope this information can be helpful to someone looking for FAIR coverage for a often misunderstood ailment. I was pleased Prudential Life was willing to evaluate OSA fairly given my otherwise strong health profile.

can I ask how MUCH a 4 million 30yr term policy costs?

Because I currently pay $49 per month and have done so for the past 15yrs, my policy was only a 10yr term for $100k and keeps rolling over ever since it expired. I thought about getting another one but

They don't know about my strokes or OSA since I had the policy in force decades before those ever were diagnosed. My best friend was my State Farm Life Insurance agent since I was 21yrs old (he since has retired), he knows my medical history and told me to continue with same policy letting it roll over each year and take the chance with rate not increasing. He said if I disclosed those medical items rate would increase, coverage would drop and/or both. Any attempt at getting better coverage would be cost prohibitive.

I am 32 years old and now have $4 million in total coverage.

I have a 10 year term at $2 million for $785 a year.
I have a 20 year term at $2 million for $1225 a year.

Insurance is all about How old you are currently and how healthy they think you are. They asked for all my medicals including all the testing (blood work, blood pressure, they took all my measurements including my weight) They do the medical at your home. They did everything other than putting me on a ekg which i know they do at some levels based on insurance premium or age.
