Started CPAP Therapy Last Night

Post by vfont » Sat Feb 24, 2007 8:44 am

At long last, I finally got my CPAP machine. I have a Respironics Auto M Series with C-Flex. I also got the smart card reader and software.

Last night I slept for 7 hours and 31 minutes. Even though I had some issues with mask leaks at higher pressures, I slept pretty soundly and feel quite refreshed today. My wife said she never heard any snoring at all. This means she slept soundly for the first time in a long time because my atomic snoring didn't keep her up.

I know CPAP therapy will change my life. I am so grateful to my doctor for prescribing the machine and for my wife insisting I go to the sleep clinic. As an added bonus, I am so alert this morning that I played my banjo better than ever.

Tonight I'm going to try the Optilife nasal pillow system to see if I get better results than with the nasal mask. The pillows are much lighter and feel a whole lot better. We'll see.

I found nasal pillows gave me considerably better results than a regular nasal mask, so I can easily believe you'll like them better. Nasal pillows kept my sinuses open throughout the night whereas a nasal mask couldn't. Of course, nasal pillows were a little hard for me to get used to . . ., and to get adjusted properly. Maybe you're already past that problem though. Good luck.

Regards,
Bill

You are a very fortunate person.
You did not say how you manafgd to get an auto/c flex with software and reader to start.
This takes a long time with many and only after a supreme court appeal.

You are also very fortunate to get out of the blocks with relative ease.
Many take a lots longer.
You seem to have a very imnportant advantoage over many.
A Positive attitude. No way to ocerstate the impartance of this!!

But keep in mind you are at the starting block and have lots to learn.
Stay tuned and keep studying.

I think it's because I'm relocating. I had a normal check up with my doctor a couple of weeks ago and told him that based on the results of my split night study, I felt the CPAP would work wonders for me. When I learned about my new job in North Carolina, I didn't actually talk to the doctor about the prescription. I talked to his assistant instead. She and I have a very good rapport. I explained the situation and told her what the sleep tech told me --that I titrated to 9 during the study. The sleep tech was about to kick me up to 10 when I woke up for the morning. Even though the written results of the study aren't complete, I asked her to ask the doctor to write me a presctiption for a CPAP at 10, so I can take the machine with me next week when I start in Raleigh. The prescription was ready the next day. When I got it, I just ordered the APAP online from CPAP.COM. The presctiption information CPAP.COM gave me said the prescription doesn't actually have to say APAP. CPAP on the prescription is sufficient to order an APAP machine.

Vfont, very good start, congratulations.

Proud of you for getting a good machine right off the bat. Did you buy out-of-pocket or will your insurance reimburse you?

Wish I could hear you play your banjo.

Have a nice move -- love NC. Did you say Raleigh? We have friends over on the coast from there.

Initial payment is out of pocket, but insurance will reimburse 80%. I've already submitted the claim.
