Staying asleep

Post by JeffH » Fri Feb 23, 2007 10:47 am

Over the last year I've noticed that I wake up from 3 to 5 times a night. Some nights I get back to sleep easy and other nights not. I usually go to the bathroom when I wake up. I don't know if this is bathroom related or something else.

Anybody had this experience and found a solution to a full nights sleep?

Thanks

JeffH

Hi Jeff, this is Jeff in TN!

And yes I suffer from waking up many times during the night also. Maybe only once to use the bathroom, but often find myself awake and turning over. Sometimes I can fall back asleep within a few minutes (I assume because I cover the clock so I can't see it...) and other times after an hour of not being able to get back to sleep I will take a tylenol PM.

I too am looking for a solution! I don't believe it is my CPAP thearpy that is causing the arousals, since I have switched from APAP to straight CPAP and also when on APAP the range is only 1-2 cm's apart.

I am waiting for the night when I can sleep 6-7 hours straight through. I believe that night will come!

Jeff in TN

You think it's a "Jeff" thing?

I would hate to think we have a "special" club of not sleeping Jeffs!
We need to open it up to persons of all names. Let's not keep this
dysfunction to ourselves!

sleep !

Post by ZZZzzz » Fri Feb 23, 2007 11:36 am

I haven't slept through the night in I don't know how long.
I've had my machine for 57 nights and every night I wake up at 2 A.M.
It's really frustrating. Most of the time I fidget with my mask for an hour and then take it off.

Put a mask on him too and let him join in the fun!

I didn't know that the "Jeff curse" was passed on to spouses. I guess it is indeed contagious!!!!!!!

I used to have the same problem for years--couldn't stand my cpap after I woke up at 2 or 3 am, every night. But I don't have that problem any more . . . the only thing waking me up at night nowadays is a little baby girl named Sophie. And she's so fantastic that I don't really mind....

....and I am not related to anyone named Jeff....though I did live near Oklahoma once upon a time (Pittsburg, KS).

Nor am I named jeff, or have any close relations with that name.
But this is exactly why I only used the first cpap that I was put on in july of 04, until this december for maybe a third of the time.
It seemed I did just as well with either ambien or lunesta, and no hose.
After talking with two frieds on bipap, got re-tested and now trying again with that.
Its been 9 nights, and still the same. I seem to wake around 3, give or take half hour either way.
I hoping this works, I don't like the idea of long term drug use.
Good luck to all.
Mike

I'm sure we all have it from time to time. What I have noted it for causes are: Naps, Sleeping to many hours the day before, and not being to lose yourself into a comfortable sleep place, I try to think of the better times of my youth.

If you are troubled over the days events, sleep comes hard. Sometimes spending too much time asleep, pays back the debt, then you pay for it the next night. Jim

Have you rechecked all the obvious, but maybe overlooked things like room temperature, noise, drinking too fluids close to bedtime, too much caffiene? I have found I sleep much better if I exercise even minimally sometime during the day. I also like to spray some lavender room spray near my bed and it is amazing how relaxed I feel. Also, do you have a really good pillow? I used to wake up in the middle of the night and rip off my mask. I decided it was psychological. After a year or so the mask stopped bothering me and now I fall asleep with even feeling it. Good luck.
