A CPAP Workhorse

Post by dnelms » Wed Feb 21, 2007 6:22 am

Well tonight for the first time since 1993 (that's 14 years) I will be using a new CPAP machine. I get the Remstar Pro Series 2 w/ C-Flex today and will retire my Remstar Classic. I checked the hours this morning and it was at 35886.4. That's alot of hours to have never had to replace a fuse, never had it worked on, etc. Given I probably should have had it checked to make sure the pressure was still at the correct level, but I really have not had many problems that were not mask related to make me question it. But as much as some machines are given bad marks, when you've had a machine that has worked that long and hard and been flawless, you give it kudos.

That's great! Even though CPAP isn't an ideal treatment, I'm always impressed with how far we've come in such a short time.

Have you thought about utilizing the data recording capabilities of your new machine to see if your pressure needs tweaking after 14 years?

Oh yes.. but after $400 plus out of my pocket right now, the other $200 for the software and reader will have to wait a couple of months. But that's the reason I picked that machine, so I can utilize the software.

How much do you want for the old one?

May your Remstar Classic enjoy a long and rich retirement. It certainly has been a true and faithful friend!

It will be safely placed in it's bag and put away "just in case"

I also had a Classic eventually die, but much earlier than yours. It was a great machine.

I am confused, you are getting a Pro/c-flx.
IIRC, that is not an auto.
What useful data other than compliance van you get frim it?

What more can be gathered then the info available on the front panel?

Tom,

The REMstar Pro2 and the M series Pro gather the same data as the Autos. I don't know if they record flow limitation though. My auto doesn't when I run it in cpap mode.

Tom, the Pro 2 isn't an M series, therefore doesn't have any info on the front panel. I think.

And software can show more detail than an M series front panel -- but I don't know what exactly.

No sense letting it go after you have that many hours invested in getting it broken in. I'd have it put to rest with me in the grave, like the family dog. Jim

I sure agree with you there, GoofProof. That ole Classic deserves it! And has more than earned it.
