Fisher and Paykel Opus Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask Call For ?'s

Post by forumadmin » Mon Feb 05, 2007 3:26 pm

Greetings CPAPtalkers,

Fisher and Paykel's mask portfolio has been steadily improving. With the release of the Opus, many are saying that the company has come of age as a serious competitor in the nasal pillow space.

For those who have not yet checked out the Opus, more information is available here:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage.php?PNum=2437&PAID=386

Please note that the pre-order date is a ball park estimate!

We will be conducting an interview with Fisher and Paykel about the Opus specifically, and broadly what it means for F&P and where they are headed in the future.

We will collect community question for inclusion in the interview until Thursday Feb 8th at 5 PM CST.

Happy posting!

Johnny

Is there any size difference when considering a change from the Puritan Bennett Breeze SleepGear to the Opus pillow size?

What parts will be available for maintenance of the OPus?

I like the over-the-head hose position. I am curious though, about positioning the nasal pillows. It looks as though they are rather far apart, which is fine for many noses, but what about peopke with smaller, narrower noses? Can the pillows be moved inward and outward for fitting?

I'm a side sleeper...and I flip sides during the night. This design would definitely keep me from doing that...or at least be quite uncomfortable on one side.

What was the creative thought process behind the Opus?

Where are the exhalation ports on this mask? Will the pillow itself be replaceable or would we have to purchase a whole new mask?

Is this mask quiet? What is the maximum pressure this system can handle? Is it durable in that patients will get at least 6 months to a year of use? Are or will all the parts of this system be replaceable? Can it be used with all cpaps, bipaps and auto adjusting machines?

How does it compare to the Swift? Is it quieter? Where are the exhaust ports located? How well does it stay in place? what is the shape of the pillows?

Will you be developing other cushions for this mask? I'm thinking along the lines of the simple cushion or direct seal cushion on the CL2, or the nasal insert on the nasalaire II.

Why is it really better than other nasal pillow systems?

It would be nice to get a response to the above questions in the next 12 hours as these are scheduled to ship out tomorrow. I have one on order and I would like to hear some feedback from the maker to the above questions.

What if the mask does not work for me. Will you also offer the return insurance with this mask?

I asked Cpap that yesterday and they said no...it's too new.

I'm supposed to be getting one from my DME this week as a trial for F&P. Apparently I need to keep a diary or something. Anyway, I was just on CPAP.com and the expected ship date has gone from 2/9 to 2/21.

I know it's past Feb. 8th, but I would like to know how the size and shape of the pillows compare to those of the Swift. Can someone with "slotted nares" use these pillows successfully?

In addition, can the direction of the exhaust be changed, so it doesn't bother a spouse.
