Unplugging the machine

Post by fishmaycraft » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:57 am

I have been unplugging my machine every morning and plugging it back in every night. If I don't it stays powered all day, am I just being silly and should leave it plugged in all day?
Also, I keep reading about folks reviewing their data, where the heck do I get this daily data?

Thanks

FMC

I always leave mine plugged in. They're really not using any juice unless they're running.
If your machine is the Escape (as in your profile), it doesn't capture any nightly data. You would need the Elite or the Vantage to get that ability.

Hi, this is retiredpete's wife again. I must say I'm proud of you for sticking in there. Yes you did touch a nerve when you seemed to want to give up so easily..and you have a baby to raise. My husband Pete has kept me in the loop as to what was going on with you and I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. It does take a lot of effort and you have to commit to following through. It took my husband years...he went to a sleep clinic 4 years ago and told me...I'm not wearing one of those stupid things every night (he's pretty feisty)!! I went along for a while....just kept nagging him..that's what wives do you know..and finally he gave in. He and I are still learning...but we are driving to Florida later this month..and I will feel much safer knowing that when he's driving that truck and towing a trailer...at least I won't worry about him falling asleep at the wheel. Mind you, we get on the road early and stop around 4 pm., but we plan to get there without putting ourselves or others in danger. Please answer...Pete's wife....Corry

Hey retiredPete's wife! Glad to hear from you again, and don't worry about the other thread, I have learned quickly that this condition and the treatment for it brings out lots of raw emotion very quickly. Yeah I have run the entire gambit of emotions on this thing from forget it to you just do what you have to do (that is where I am now!). That's great y'all are camping! I love to camp too, my folks have a 5th wheel they take all over the country and I just put a hitch for it in my truck last year and they let us use it whenever we want to. It is a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to traveling with our daughter all over the place.

Y'all be safe and have a great trip, with I was going!!!

About the only time I unplug mine is either when I am cleaning it or there are storms coming in. Other than that, I usually keep it plugged in.

I never unplug the unit since it is powered by my battery bank. No worries about storms or power outages.

Hi FMC,

I never unplug mine either. Den, I just checked the product description for the S8 Escape & it looks like you can get detailed data from it. The S8 Compact you can't.

FMC, wait for Den to get back to you on that, he's one of the gurus around here.

To get your nightly data, this is for a different machine, but I think the procedure is the same.

I don't unplug, but I switch off my powerstrip; I have a cat that has learned to turn on the machine so she can sleep on a nice warm surface on top of the unit. LOL.

Re the S8 escape

I believe it only records compliance data on the data card,

FMC & Den,

Please disregard my earlier post with regards the S8 Escape.

Thanks Doug.

I think the unplugging of machines may have a historical origin and possibly in our upbringing.

I remember clearly my mom and others, including my wife, always be sure to unplug their iron after using.
Maybe sometimes in the past a house was burned down do to this and many houses that burned down were blamed on possibly not unplugging the iron.
These admonitions may persist today in many.
Most modern irons, i think, cut themselves off after a time if not used.
I do not think these same people unplug their stoves and washing machines and coffee makers, still the idea of unplugging the iron persists.

The same admonitino to always wear clean underwear in case of an accident so it will not be discovered that you had on dirty underwear.
Some things are hardwired.
Britney Spears evidently did not listen to her mother.
Wonder if she unplugs her iron? Bet she has never used one.
tomjax- leaving humor and getting silly.

I leave my machine plugged in all the time, except during thunderstorms. Same with the Aussie heated hose.

Why?

Post by Rafe » Sat Feb 10, 2007 10:47 am

Why not unplug? I understand the clock battery doesn't charge even if you leave it in. So why leave it plugged in? Even though it doesn't use much electricity when off, it does use some. Is it that much of a bother?

to unplug or not to unplug

Post by t-bone » Sat Feb 10, 2007 11:52 am

I unplug my machine for two reasons only: First is to pack it to take it somewhere, and the second is that when I take out my smartcard to download the data from it, I like having the machine unplugged as a reminder that the card is not there.

On the occasion of a recent download, I found this to be a useful reminder--I'd forgotten to return the card to the machine and realized it as I was getting ready for bed.

Otherwise, I leave the machine connected.

Why unplug during storm? Will we get electrocuted or just ruin the machine. I am not a scientific person.
