Toshiba FlashAir SD Card, Mac (M2), OSCAR Setup Help

Post by WarDaddy427 » Wed Aug 07, 2024 2:24 am

Hello CPAP Family,

I have obtained a Lowenstein PrismaSmart CPAP machine and a Toshiba FlashAir Wifi SD Card. Lowenstein does not have SleepHQs support yet, so I will be using OSCAR in the interim.

Does anyone know steps or clear instructions in order for me to set this specific Wifi SD card up in the most efficient way? My goal is to have it write to a location on my Mac and have OSCAR pick it up, all without having to remove the SD card from the CPAP machine ever. I’m just not computer saavy enough, so I need a breakdown on steps to do this. I’d appreciate any help or guidance on this issue to automate this successfully.

Thank you!

You've bitten off more than you can chew, my son. Obviously the easy (hah!) way would be to get a Raspberry Pi involved... that's what Nick and Adam have done. SleepHQ has recently exposed their upload spec code just for this purpose... but you're not trying to do that, you want the card itself to put data on your PC, or at least appear on your network.

Not saying it can't be done, but if it could be, you'd be hearing about it. I own several of the wifi cards, including the Toshiba and the other bigger fatter more programmable one. I have made some rudimentary steps along this path... but it was unsatisfyingly difficult to program the cards, and the wifi channel was flakey and prone to resetting. I did manage to move a few files around but nothing like SleepHQ has going with their Magic Uploader. Nick has put out feelers looking for a different wifi card... he's not that happy with the Toshiba solution either. Are you capable of downloading and understanding the Oscar source code? If not, I believe your quest to be fruitless. SleepHQ does not currently support Lowenstein if I'm not mistaken.

The obvious best end solution would have the card appear as a NAS on your network... this will be wonderful if and when it happens. I have ideas about replacing the Ax10 modem card with something to do this... these machines are going to be around for a lot longer than the five years envisioned... that is my dream anyway. If you're not a professional computer firmware engineer (like me) you don't have a chance, basically. Google around and see if you understand what folks have done before... I believe the Raspberry Pi code is out there, for instance... someone was working on that when it got absorbed by SleepHQ.

FlashAir can be configured as follows via a browser once you insert it into the PrismaSmart.

You will need to figure out how to mount it on the Mac.
It will not copy the data on to the Mac without additional software.
I just mount it as a network drive on my windows pc.
Point OSCAR to the mount point and call it a day.

Use the search box below the cpaptalk.com logo and see how others have configured it.

Good luck
