Yerba Mate tea

Post by Denase » Sun Jun 30, 2024 9:23 am

I have been drinking Yerba Mate tea and my AHI numbers are down. Last night was .7 with no other changes to pressure, mask, or any other parameters.
I have used CPAP for close to 20 years and an AHI near 1 is a really good night for me. With most nights ranging from 2 to 4 AHI mixed obstructive and central apnea.
Last night no centrals at all.
Has anyone else tried this tea?

No, but I'd wait a bit longer to see if the tea is responsible or just coincidental... Experiment a bit.

I have, I drank Yerba Mate for several weeks and noticed a difference. I ran out and didn't buy any for a while my AHI went up. So I purchased more and after a few days my numbers are back down. So maybe it is just me, was hoping someone else had tried it.

It claims to have 80 mg of caffeine per 8-ounce cup. Your AHI probably went down because you are awake more during the night. And, it's not sure that your AHI change is statistically significant.

Maybe but I usually drink coffee only in the AM but have substituted with Yerba mate. I never drink caffeinated drinks after noon.

How many cups of coffee in the past, and now how many of Yerba?

Three cups of coffee in the morning, now it"s Yerba Mate. Google says 95 mg caffeine in one cup of coffee vs 80 mg for Yerba.
So I don't think it's caffeine.

Personally, I'm skeptical that any ingredient in Yerba Mate promotes sleep. But forget that I said that. If you think it promotes sleep, it might!
